    • Raster demodulation apparatus for a raster-scanned cathode ray tube display comprises control means (400) for varying the shape of at least one scanned electron beam spot (661-663) in a direction perpendicular to scan lines of the raster. The control means (400) comprises an electro-magnet (700) for mounting on the neck of the cathode ray tube. The magnet (700) has eight pole pieces (720-790) spaced around the neck of the cathode ray tube (210). A winding (710) passes around each of the pole pieces (720-790) in succession in opposite directions so that, when an electrical current (I) is passed through the winding, adjacent pole pieces (720-790) around the neck of the cathode ray tube have different magnetic polarity to generate, within the neck of the cathode ray tube (210), a magnetic field in which magnetic lines of force (680) pass through the or each electron beam (661-663) only in a direction parallel to the scan lines of the raster.

    • A display device comprises a cathode and a permanent magnet. A two dimensional array of rows and columns of channels extends between opposite poles of the magnet for receiving electrons from the cathode. A screen has a plurality of phosphor pixels each corresponding to a different channel and each comprising a plurality of sub-pixels facing the side of the magnet remote from the cathode. Grid electrode means is disposed between the cathode means and the magnet. A plurality of pairs of anodes are disposed between the magnet and the screen and extending parallel to the columns of channels. Each pair corresponds to a different column of channels and each pair has first and second anodes extending along opposite sides of the corresponding column of channels. Address means supplies control signals to the grid electrode means to selectively control flow of electrons from the cathode through each channel to the corresponding pixel. An anode drive circuit supplies anode drive signals to the first and second anodes respectively. The anode drive circuit comprises bias means for generating an acceleration component of each anode drive signal for accelerating electrons through the channels, deflection means for generating a deflection component of each anode drive signal for deflecting electrons emerging from each channel towards different sub-pixels of the corresponding pixel, and correction means for varying the deflection component to align the deflected electron beams with the corresponding sub-pixels.

    • The present electrical apparatus comprises an antenna for directing towards an electric field source to detect the electric field (E) to be reduced. The antenna is connected to amplifier for generating an output signal in response to an input signal from the antenna. The output signal is in anti-phase to the input signal. A radiator is connected to the amplifier for radiating a cancelling electric field (E') in anti-phase to the electric field (E) from the source in response to the output signal from the amplifier to at least partially cancel reduce the electric field from the source. The antenna, when directed towards the source, is positioned relative to the radiator and the source to detect both the cancelling electric field (E') from the radiator and the electric field (E) from the source. The input signal produced by the antenna is thus derived from the sum of the electric field (E) to be reduced from the source and the cancelling electric field (E') from the radiator.

    • A display device having a cathode for emitting electrons and a permanent magnet. A two dimensional array of channels extends between opposite poles of the magnet. The magnet generates, in each channel, a magnetic field for forming electrons from the cathode into an electron beam. A screen receives an electron beam from each channel. The screen has a phosphor coating facing the side of the magnet remote from the cathode. An electrode grid is disposed between the cathode and the magnet for controlling flow of electrons from the cathode into each channel. A plurality of anodes each disposed on the surface of the magnet remote from the cathode, each corresponding to a different channel, and each having a first and second anode respectively extending along opposite sides of the corresponding channel for accelerating electrons through the corresponding channel and for sequentially addressing electrons emerging from the corresponding channel to different sub-pixels of the corresponding pixel. The first and second anodes associated with each channel are skewed relative to the sub-pixels of the corresponding pixel.
