An upper movable clamp bar cooperates with a finger support bar to grab a smooth-sided cart with a single upper lifting lip. A hinged saddle and hinged sliding hook lifts carts having a pair of opposing engagement surfaces (e.g., bars). Hinged members are automatically pivoted into retracted positions during presentation of smooth sided carts, but are otherwise maintained in place for engaging other type carts. The lifter has a relatively short face plate for size and weight advantages, obtained by alternate extension/retraction of the hinged sliding hook during a lift cycle. Rollers on the extending face plate prevent cart scarring. Adjustment for different height carts is provided by a vertical lift assembly which uses a hydraulic sequencing valve to first raise the lifter for engaging the cart and then to cycle through a dumping process. Vertical lift adjustment uses a pair of guide rods with pairs of slip fit bushings for improved dynamic operational stability. A movable valving member is engaged by a piston for automatically reducing the flow rate of hydraulic oil as the piston nears the end of its cycle, i.e., as a cart is being fully inverted and dumped. Such action dampens cart and apparatus wear and strain. The piston responsive variable valving features are also useful with devices other than cart lifters.

摘要： A self-adapting refuse receptacle lift has a carriage for raising and dumping the contents of a refuse receptacle into a collection load box or refuse gathering vehicle. The carriage is carried on extending arms, the rotation of which may be controlled with a hydraulic or other powered drive device. The carriage includes attachments comprising a pair of moveable clamp arms. The clamp arms have self-adapting features so that a variety of receptacles of different sizes and shapes may be lifted by the apparatus. Sequencing elements rotate the clamp arms down from a vertical stored position into a horizontal position for clamping a receptacle to be dumped. Then, the entire carriage is raised for inverting and dumping and the contents of the receptacle, and then reverse operations follow, whereby the clamp arms return to an upright stored vertical position to be out of the way during the movement of a refuse collecting vehicle.

摘要： A lifting apparatus includes two pairs of lift arms having respective displaced pivot points on a movable carriage for projecting such carriage up into a refuse-receiving opening of a garbage truck, and in an inverted position so as to dump the contents of a receptacle held on such carriage. The two pairs of arms are also axially nested in a co-planar orientation when the carriage is in its fully lowered position, so as to minimize the overall width of the lifting apparatus. A particular hydraulic rotary motor having a relatively thin width may be used to actuate the apparatus. The hydraulic rotary motor utilizes meshed rack and pinion teeth generally within the confines of a cylinder thereof for minimizing the width of the cylinder block. Also, the rack and pinion teeth remain enclosed within such cylinder immersed in hydraulic fluid passing therethrough so as to lubricate the moving components for prolonging their service life with less maintenance. A plurality of cylinders may be aligned in parallel, and share a common pinion gear output shaft, with each cylinder having a reciprocating piston rod supporting rack teeth for engagement with such pinion gear. A lifting apparatus as presently described in combination with the disclosed hydraulic rotary motor can have minimized width while still being capable of repetitively handling full weight loads with reduced maintenance and projecting same a selected distance up into a garbage truck, which also reduces the need for successive compaction of the dumped receptacle contents after each dumping cycle.
