摘要： An integral structure is provided for chemical processing and manufacture, in which a plurality of laminae are joined together and having inlet and outlet ports connected by a three dimensionally tortuous channel. Chemicals are introduced through the inlet ports and processed along the channel, with desirable product withdrawn through the outlet ports. The laminae are of materials selected to be compatible with the chemical process, from the group consisting of elements of groups III, IV or V of the Periodic Table, ceramics, glasses, polymers, composites and metals. Processes of manufacture of the apparatus and processes utilizing the apparatus are also disclosed herein.

摘要： Apparatus for the preparation of optical ferrules containing cylindrical members is disclosed. The apparatus utilizes guide means receiving the cylindrical member, a sleeve receiving a piston therethrough, and a pin extending into the sleeve. The apparatus also includes biasing means to position the piston, fill gates to dispense polymer into a defined cavity, and containment means which secure the apparatus components together. Injection molded optical fiber ferrules made according to the apparatus and process disclosed exhibit superior properties.

摘要： A connector assembly for connecting an optical fiber cable to a socket may be used in field with the advantages of precision connection and testing found in a manufacturing facility. The optical fiber cable has a first end, and a first predetermined length of a first bare optical fiber extends from the first end. The connector assembly comprises a ferrule for holding a second optical fiber. The ferrule has a first end, a second end, a central axis extending between the first and the second end and a hole extending along the central axis. A first portion of the second optical fiber is disposed in the hole and a second portion of the second optical fiber extends from the first end of the ferrule. The connector assembly also comprises a device for splicing the second portion of the second optical fiber to the first predetermined length of the first bare optical fiber. A housing encloses the splicing device, the second portion of the second optical fiber and the first predetermined length of the first bare optical fiber. The housing provides strain relief for the first predetermined length of the first bare optical fiber and for the second portion of the second optical fiber.

摘要： An opto-electronic component includes an opto-electronic device of either the edge or the surface active type mounted on a pedestal. A fiber is positionied by a positioning device apparatus. The positioning apparatus includes a superimposed first and a second arm. Each arm may be subdivided into a first and a second finger. The arms (and fingers) are fabricated from a crystalline material. The arms (and fingers) are biased toward a closed position. An optical fiber introduced into a channel defined by the superimposed arms is initially deflected so that a point on the end face of the fiber is placed into alignment with a reference axis. Further axial movement of the fiber through the channel causes the arms to move against the bias force to hold the point on the axis, regardless of the diameter of the fiber.
