    • An automatic parasitically driven declinator for changing the tilt angle of the mirror of a heliostat to provide solar declination tracking by the heliostat. The declinator includes an axial gear drive train coupled to the polar axial shaft of the heliostat, which shaft is rotated. A pendulum arrangement coupled via an input shaft to the axial gear drive train is substantially held in plumb position by gravity wherein the gear drive train is driven as it is rotated about the polar axis by the polar axial shaft. An output shaft coupled to the gear train is rotated to drive a skew bar linkage assembly that is connected to the mirror mounting assembly of the heliostat. The gear ratio of the gear drive train assembly is made 365:1 so that the mirror angle is annually nutated a predetermined number of degrees corresponding to the cyclic variations of solar declination.

    • A ribbon of flexible fabric (e.g., nylon) is folded and riveted near the fold to form an attachment loop. The loop is then coupled on a centrally located support rod inside an air duct, the ribbon ends extending beyond the exit of the duct. When air is forced through the duct, the free ends oscillate rapidly to brush away particulates on a surface being cleaned. The support rod is a portion of a clip which is removably coupled to the duct. The duct is cylindrical and may comprise a common, commercially available vacuum cleaner tube.

    • A solar sight having a scale calibrated in terms of solar declination angle and reflector angle is provided with diffraction pattern forming means comprising a movable sighting tube which, when directed at the sun, provides a Fresnel pattern on a viewing surface, which pattern indicates when said sighting tube is in proper alignment such that its axis is parallel to that of the incoming rays of the sun. The solar sight is portable and may be moved about on a heliostat so as to adjust the operation of the heliostat clock drive to agree with local sun time and to adjust the heliostat reflector tilt angle so that the sun's rays are reflected along or parallel to the polar axis. Movement of the sighting tube causes the movement of a vernier plate bearing an index which permits readout of the solar declination in degrees north or south declination. The vernier scale permits the reading of solar declination angles to 0.1.degree. and the establishment of reflector angles to 0.2.degree.. No optical elements (lenses) are employed within the diffraction tube. Use of the solar sight herein disclosed makes practical the use of a heliostat by persons of average economic means.

    • A storage unit of the disclosure includes vertical posts on which beams that connect the posts are adjustably supported at selected heights. Each post has an elongated shape of a T-shaped cross section including an imperforate outer wall, imperforate side walls that extend inwardly from the outer wall in spaced relationship to each other, inner walls that extend from the side walls toward each other in spaced relationship to the outer wall, and flanges which extend inwardly from the inner walls and are connected to each other. Mounting openings are provided in each inner wall of the post along the length thereof for use in securing the beams to the post. Each beam has an elongated shape between the posts and opposite ends which include respective notches. At least one attachment tab is mounted within each beam notch for protection when the beam is not being used and for use in securing the beam to the post by projecting through one of the post mounting openings. Upper and lower ends of the post mounting openings are symmetrical about a horizontal centerline so that the post can be used with either of its ends up. A unitary attachment plate on the end of the beam includes a flat section and a bent section from which the attachment tab is struck. As disclosed, there are two sets of vertically spaced attachment tabs and each set includes a lower support tab and an upper anti-lift tab which are both received within the same mounting opening upon securement of the beam to the post. Inclined surfaces of the post mounting openings are engaged by the support tabs to force the beam end against the post, and wedging surfaces of the support tabs likewise force the beam end against the post.
