    • An improved well mast structure and method for building the well mast structure in the form of multiple, separately attachable sections including a bottom section, a lower section, a middle section, a top section and a crown section. A bottom section having a generally U-shaped box frame at its upper end is raised to a vertical position and a separate crown section is inserted into the open end of the U-shaped box frame and placed on top of the bottom section. The top, middle and lower sections are then installed using a similar procedure. Each section is lifted by a conventional crane until its upper end is pivotally attached to the lower end of the previously installed section. The section is then pivotally lowered to a vertical position within the bottom section and pivotally raised and secured to the previously installed section. The installed sections are then raised in a telescoping manner.

    • The invention features an assembly for use in a system used to drill a well. The system is capable of receiving a mixture of drilling fluid (e.g., liquid mud) and gumbo from downhole of the well. The assembly has a grating having at least one opening extending through the grating and positioned to intercept the mixture. The at least one opening is sized to block the gumbo from passing through the at least one opening and to allow the fluid to pass through the at least one opening. The assembly has an arm and a motivator connected to move the arm across the grating to remove the gumbo blocked from passing through the at least one opening.

    • A well mast apparatus is disclosed in the form of multiple, separately connectable sections including a lower mast section, an upper mast section and, if desired, several subsequent intermediate mast sections. The mast sections are provided with lifting rings positioned thereon for balancing the mast sections upon lifting. The upper mast section includes a connector offset from its lifting ring for controlling and guiding pivotal movement of the upper mast section relative to the lower mast section as the well mast is being raised. The lifting ring offset from the pivotable connector, which is interengaged between the fixed vertical lower section and the balanced horizontal second mast section, guides the direction and speed of rotation of the second mast section relative to the lower mast section during installation.

    • A trussed leg structure for use in jack-up mobile offshore platforms of the type that include a plurality of support legs extending into the water down to the ocean floor with jacking units engaging each leg to raise and lower the platform structure relative to the surface of the water. The leg structure disclosed includes a plurality of mutually parallel and laterally spaced apart column members rigidly interconnected to define a triangularly-shaped leg. The leg structure has only a single elongated rack carried on one of the column members to provide single point jacking of the leg. The rack comprises a flat, plate-like rack member having a set of rack teeth extending along each edge for meshed engagement with a separate one of a pair of pinions on a jacking unit. Two of the three column members are made of tubular pipe. The third column member, which carries the elongated rack, is an elongate rack plate oriented perpendicular to a plane defined by the first and second column members. The rack plate in combination with the rack member gives the third column member a generally T-shaped configuration. Cross-bracing extends between adjacent column members and includes horizontal brace members with diagonal brace members extending between adjacent pairs of horizontal brace members.

    • A gutter for collecting water from a roof includes a flange having a channel extending along a top edge of the gutter front side. A gutter bracket is positioned entirely within the gutter trough with one end of the gutter bracket and a rear side of the gutter secured to the fascia of a building. An opposing end of the gutter bracket and the front side of the gutter are commonly secured to a screened room frame. A splashguard extends along the front side of the gutter and includes a bottom flange and a rib mating with the channel of the gutter with the flanges fastened together. A splashguard top edge flange has a channel for receiving a spline securing the screening to the splashguard. A splashguard bracket is secured between an upper portion of the splashguard and the gutter bracket.

    • A multiple section mast having telescoping modular sections adapted to be erected at remote land sites or on offshore platforms by small capacity cranes. A separate lower mast section having an open side is first placed in vertical position on a substructure. A separate upper mast section is moved horizontally into the lower mast section then elevated vertically to extend above the lower mast section. A separate intermediate mast section having at least part of one side open is then moved horizontally into the lower mast section and fastened to the lower end of the upper mast section. The upper and intermediate mast sections are then simultaneously elevated until the lower end of the intermediate mast section can be fastened to the upper end of the lower mast section. Retainer means removably attached to the lower mast section extend into the open side engaging the upper and intermediate sections as they are telescoped.
