    • A hinge system for a knee brace features a flexion-extension regulating device which is adapted to engage an end portion of the knee brace's upper strut. An elongated main slot is formed through the regulating device to provide a fixed boundary for limiting range of motion. A motion limiting member is connected to the regulating device and is further adapted for connection to an end portion of the knee brace's lower strut. The motion limiting member includes a motion limiter that is disposed within the main slot. The motion limiter is caused to move therealong when the upper and lower struts pivot about a user's knee joint. By confining the motion limiter within the fixed boundary formed by the main slot, the hinge system ensures that the user's knee joint flexes and extends within the prescribed range of motion.

    • An exteriorly positionable anatomical brace for stabilizing a uniting pivoting joint disposed between a first and second limb structure of a living being. The brace includes upper and lower frame members joined by a pivoting joint member, with each frame member having a respective cuff for encompassing a portion of each limb structure above and below the joint. Each cuff is an arcuate, tensionable, flexibly-bendable wall structure having integral therewith at least one elongate tensioner in arcuately related juxtaposition with the cuff such that bending the tensioner also bends the cuff. The tensioner includes an exteriorly accessible adjuster for incrementally moving the lateral end of the tensioner medially or laterally for tightening or loosening the cuff. Once set, the adjuster maintains the chosen arcuate configuration, thereby assuring a proper fit without repeated adjustment each time the brace is donned.

    • A brace for supporting a joint formed of a plurality of joint members is disclosed. The brace includes first and second frame members disposed on opposite sides of the joint to be supported, and first and second hinge members disposed substantially adjacent the joint and connected to the frame members to pivot the frame members about the joint. The frame members may be formed of separable portions engageable with each other at variable locations along the length thereof. Adjustment of the engagement location being effective to vary the orientation of at least one of the frame member portions with respect to at least one of the hinges. The brace is therefore adjustable to conform to lateral curvature of the joint members. The hinge members may be formed to regulate rotation of at least one of the frame members about the joint to provide close support to the joint members during unlocking of the joint. Such close support is provided by separately pivoting the frame members about the hinge member such that the relative rotational movement of the frame members varies in accordance with the relative movement of the joint members supported by the brace.
