    • An apparatus and method for encoding/decoding a transport format combination indicator (TFCI) in a CDMA mobile communication system. In the TFCI encoding apparatus, a one-bit generator generates a sequence having the same symbols. A basis orthogonal sequence generator generates a plurality of basis orthogonal sequences. A basis mask sequence generator generates a plurality of basis mask sequences. An operation unit receives TFCI bits that are divided into a first information part representing biorthogonal sequence conversion, a second information part representing orthogonal sequence conversion, and a third information part representing mask sequence conversion and combines an orthogonal sequence selected from the basis orthogonal sequence based on the second information, a biorthogonal sequence obtained by combining the selected orthogonal sequence with the same symbols selected based on the first information part, and a mask sequence selected based on the biorthogonal sequence and the third information part, thereby generating a TFCI sequence.

    • There is provided an encoding apparatus and method in a CDMA communication system. To encode input information of a k-bit sequence and generate a codeword with length N>(2k−1), an encoder encodes the input information using an (r, k) simplex code and generates a sequence of code symbols of length r (r=2k−1), a repeater repeats the sequence of code symbols t times ( t = ⌊ N r ⌋ + 1 ) , and a puncturer performs puncturing A times (A=rt−N) on the t repeated code symbol sequences so that the resulting codes have length N. The punctured symbols are distributed uniformly across the repeated code symbol sequences or confined to the tth repeated code symbol sequence.

        • A scrambling code generating apparatus of a downlink transmitter in a UMTS mobile communication system, which uses one primary scrambling code for separation of base stations and multiple secondary scrambling codes for channel separation. The apparatus includes a first m-sequence generator for generating a first m-sequence and a second m-sequence generator for generating a second m-sequence. A first summer adds the first and second m-sequences to generate the primary scrambling code. A plurality of first masking sections each shift the first m-sequence, and a plurality of second masking sections corresponding to the respective first masking sections each shifts the second m-sequence. A plurality of second summers each adds one of the first shifted m-sequences with the second m-sequence corresponding to the first m-sequence. The output of the second summers thus generates the multiple secondary scrambling codes.
