摘要： A fuel filter for an engine includes a housing having an interior space and is assembled into a fuel flow path between a source of fuel and the engine. The housing includes a passageway which has an inlet aperture which is used to control the delivery of fuel to either the engine or back to the source of fuel. The housing also includes a return-fuel passageway which is in flow communication with the interior space and is adapted to couple to the source of fuel. A filter cartridge is installed within the housing and includes an end cap with an air vent tube having an inlet opening. The air vent tube is designed so as to assemble into the passageway, so as to plug the inlet aperture. Once the inlet aperture is plugged by the air vent tube, the flow entrance to the passageway is raised from the inlet aperture to the inlet opening of the air vent tube. The plugging of the inlet aperture by the air vent tube allows fuel to be delivered to the engine. When the air vent tube is not assembled into the inlet aperture, fuel is drained back to the source and does not reach the engine. The fuel filter further includes a pressure-regulated control valve which is installed within the return fuel passageway and is activated by the internal pressure within the housing. This valve permits excess fuel to be returned to the source of fuel.

The endplate (12) includes a plate with a major surface, a separator (10) that protrudes axially away from the major surface. The separator (10) includes a first flow portion (14) and a second flow portion (16), where the first flow portion (14) is disposed radially inward relative to the second flow portion (16). The first flow portion (14) includes a channel (22) and the second flow portion includes a channel (24). The respective channels (22,24) are configured to allow axial fluid flow relative to the plate, and configured to allow fluid flow that is localized toward the center of the plate (12).

摘要： A fuel filter assembly for the filtering of a flow of fuel includes an outer shell defining a hollow interior and, at a first end, a fuel inlet passageway, a fuel outlet passageway, and a water collection region. The outer shell has a second end which is open and constructed and arranged to be closed by a removable lid. Installed within the hollow interior of the outer shell is a fuel filter cartridge which includes a filter element constructed and arranged for water separation. The filter element defines an interior space into which a fuel transfer pump is installed and which is operable to push fuel through the filter element. Included as part of the fuel filter assembly is a filter detector control circuit including a normally-open filter detector switch which is electrically and operably coupled to the fuel transfer pump. A plunger on the filter detector switch must be depressed in order to close the circuit and enable operation of the fuel transfer pump. The plunger is depressed only upon the installation of the fuel filter cartridge, thereby preventing the delivery of fuel to a downstream location unless a fuel filter cartridge is properly installed. Also included as part of the fuel filter assembly is a fuel heater, a temperature sensor, a drain valve, and a diagnostic port.

摘要： Various “no filter, no run” fuel filtration designs are described that include a variable restriction orifice (VRO) designed to vary the amount of fluid, for example fuel, that reaches a fluid outlet. The VRO has a fully open position at which a maximum non-zero fluid flow is permitted, and a fully closed position at which a limited amount of fluid can flow to the outlet. In the case of diesel fuel, the amount of fuel flow permitted at the fully closed position provides lubrication of downstream fuel system components, for example the fuel pump, but is insufficient to permit engine operation.

摘要： A filter system includes a filter configured to regulate fuel pressure as well as automatically vent air from the filter. A pressure regulator valve is positioned in the top of a standpipe of the filter. The filter includes a filter cartridge with top and bottom end caps. The top end cap of the filter cartridge has a hole with radial sealing gasket, which seals against the top of the standpipe to prohibit flow from bypassing the filter cartridge. This arrangement exposes the regulator valve to the fuel and/or air at the top of the filter housing. Pressure in the housing opens the valve, allowing air and/or fuel to be vented through the standpipe, and back to the fuel tank.

摘要： A filter and replacement filter cartridge is provided with a pulsation dampener mounted and sealed to the filter cartridge basket at an inner diameter thereof. The pulsation dampener is captive to the basket such that removal of the basket from the filter housing canister removes all of the basket, filter media, and pulsation dampener as a single unit without separate, loose parts thereof. An axial extension section of the basket facilitates gripping and removal, and maintains a fully seated installed filter position. Sealing is provided without a section of the pulsation dampener interposed between the filter housing canister and lid.
