    • A photographic process for producing relief images comprises (1) exposing a copy medium comprising a photosensitive photoconductor layer comprising photosensitive material incorporated in a binder capable of being physically developed in radiation-struck areas and wherein the photosensitive layer is deposited on a support, (2) forming a visible image in the copy medium by contacting the medium with a physical developer, and (3) selectively removing the exposed areas of the photosensitive layer down to the support by prolonging the physical development step until the image becomes frangible. Removal may be speeded up by contacting the medium with a bleach bath, or by washing or brushing. The process of this invention may be used for producing positive or negative prints of an original, for producing diazomasters, or for producing lithographic plates.

    • THIS INVENTION RELATES TO A NVEL PHOTOGRAPHIC PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT SYSTEM COMPRISING AN ACIDIC TO NEUTRAL SOLUTION OF REDUCING AGENT COMPRISING A DIAMINE COMPOUND AND A HYDROXYLAMINE COMPOUND. THE PREFERRED FIAMINE COMPOUND HAS THE STRUCTURE OF:

      R1-N(-R2)-(C(-)=C(-))N-N(-R3)-R4

AND THE PREFERRED HYDROXYLAMINE COMPOUND HAS THE STRUCTURE OF:

      HO-(C(-)=C(-))N-N(-R1)-R2

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

    • Reproduction systems having broader spectral sensitivity are produced wherein certain classes of dyes are added to photosensitive materials which, when activated, are capable of producing chemical reaction when in contact with image-forming agents to produce a visible image. The dyes are those which undergo a color change when heated to elevated temperatures and thus alter the spectral sensitivity of the photosensitive materials after heating. The dyes include styryl dyes substituted on the vinyl group by a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic, which in their unaltered state, themselves alter the sensitivity of the reproduction system. Improved processes using this improved reproduction system comprise selectively exposing the present systems to activating radiation after heating to the color transition temperature or alternatively first exposing and then heating to the said temperature. A preferred process is an add-on technique for addition of images to a reproduction system in which readable images are already present. The new reproduction systems of this invention have a built-in differential in spectral sensitivity by virtue of alteration of the dye by heating.
