Flat-panel read and write cycles to the frame accelerator designed area inside the memory are optimized in order to minimize memory bandwidth requirements. Extra memory space in the memory device may be used to buffer multiple half-frames of shaded data in such a manner as to save a considerable amount of power in the LCD display graphics system.

摘要： An apparatus and method for providing a conversion technique to allow an eight bit ROM BIOS to be read on a 32 bit PCI bus. A separate address port for the ROM BIOS is provided which is not connected to the PCI bus. The conversion bus takes data from the ROM BIOS at a separate data port, assembles four cycles of eight bits in a 32 bit fashion and delivers that data to the PCI bus. When the PCI bus requests 4 bytes, the system of the present invention assembles 4 bytes from the 8 bit data and transmits that data to the PCI bus as a 32 bit quantity.

摘要： A graphics display controller is used to manage audio data within a computer-based multimedia system. A portion of the video display memory associated with the graphics display controller is allocated to one or more audio data buffers to hold digitized data for audio recording and/or playback. Preferably, the size and location of the audio buffer(s) relative to the video data is dynamically configureable within the memory. The timing of the audio data transfer into or out of the video display memory is preferably controlled by the video horizontal sync (HSYNC) signal, so that audio data transfers occur substantially during the pauses in video-memory access that correspond to the retrace time at the end of each video display line. A single, unified host CPU interface and related circuitry is preferably used for control or data-transfer functions related both to video graphics and to audio. For threshold-sensitive audio recording, a look-back buffer is preferably used to hold audio-data samples up to a fixed number of samples prior to the first sample that exceeds the current threshold value.
