    • A package of rolled photosensitive mateiral comprising a core, a photosensitive strip material wound around the core, a light-shielding leader connected to the end of the photosensitive strip material to shield the peripheral surface of the photosensitive strip material from light and side light-shielding covers connected to both sides of the light-shielding leader so that the boundary between the side light-shielding covers and the light-shielding leader corresponds to the boundary between the peripheral surface and the side surface of the photosensitive strip material. The core is formed by laminating at least 2 sheets of a base paper being moistureproof. The side light-shielding covers are composed of a composite film having a polyethylene film having light-shielding ability and a uniaxially oriented film or a biaxially oriented film made of polyester, polyethylene polypropylene or nylon with the length of the side light-shielding covers being not less than twice as long as the outer periphery of a roll of the photosensitive strip material.

    • In a method and apparatus for packaging a rolled web, a feed roller is located near each of opposed end faces of the rolled web to be packaged. The axis of rotation of a feed roller is inclined with respect to the radial direction of the roll, which radial direction intersects perpendicularly to the direction along which a wrapping material having side edge parts folded in L-shapes is fed, such that the outer periphery of the axis of rotation, which outer periphery is taken in the radial direction of the roll, is more forward with respect to the direction, along which the wrapping material is fed, than the inner periphery of the axis of rotation. A folding member is located on the side more forward than the feed roller with respect to the direction, along which the wrapping material is fed. The folding member is supported such that the space between the folding member and the opposed end faces of the roll varies periodically. The feed roller rotates to feed the side edge part of the wrapping material while the side edge part is being imparted with tension towards the center of rotation of the roll. A slack portion of the side edge part of the wrapping material, which slack portion occurs on the side forward from the feed roller with respect to the direction, along which the wrapping material is fed, is folded by the folding member at predetermined intervals onto the opposed end faces of the roll.

    • An apparatus for measuring the thickness of a roll winding on or unwinding from a core during winding or unwinding of a web, comprises a first detector having a beam projector and a beam receiver which are arranged along the core at opposite ends of the roll for detecting a predetermined thickness of the roll with a rough accuracy. A second detector having a beam projector and a linear array sensor is provided, for detecting the roll thickness with high accuracy. When the first detector detects a predetermined thickness of the roll, the second detector, which is supported on an arm carrying a positioning roller, is placed in operative position by pressing the positioning roller against the core and detects the thickness of the roll according to the position on the linear array sensor of the beam reflected from the surface of the roll.
