    • Novel 1.alpha., 24-dihydroxycholecalciferol and derivatives thereof which are useful with reduced side-effects for the treatment of abnormal metabolism of calcium and phosphorus caused by liver failure, renal failure, gastrointestinal tract failure and parathyroid failure, and related bone diseases. Preparation of the novel 1.alpha., 24-dihydroxycholecalciferol and their derivatives starts from 1.alpha., 24-dihydroxycholesterol prepared by reacting 1.alpha., 2.alpha.-epoxy-24-keto-cholesta-4,6-dien-3-one with an alkali metal and a proton donor in the presence of liquid ammonia or a liquid amine. Reaction of the 1.alpha., 24-dihydroxycholesterol with an allylic brominating agent, followed by contacting with a dehydrobrominating agent, affords 1.alpha.,3.beta., 24-trihydroxycholesta-5,7-diene derivative, which can then be converted to 1.alpha., 24-dihydroxycholocalciferol by ultraviolet irradiation in a organic solvent, followed by isomerization. Processes are also provided for separating 1.alpha., 24-dihydroxycholesterol into an (S)-epimer and an (R)-epimer, and also for separating at least one of 1.alpha., 3.beta., 24(S)-and 1.alpha., 3.beta., 24(R)-trihydroxycholesta-5,7-dienes from trihydroxycholesta-4,6-diene.

    • The present invention allows a buffer memory to be shared for data streams, while maintaining space efficiency of the buffer memory. A buffer memory sharing apparatus allowing the buffer memory to be shared includes: a flag managing circuit which manages flags each indicating an occupancy status of a region; and, for the each data stream, an address generating circuit. The address generating circuit includes: an occupancy managing circuit which manages exclusive allocation of regions based on the flags; a FIFO memory which stores a bit sequence indicating an allocated region; a write counter; and a read counter. The address generating circuit generates a write address by combining a bit sequence stored at an end of the FIFO memory and a value of the write counter, and generates a read address by combining a bit sequence stored at a start of the FIFO memory and a value of the read counter.

    • A harmonic suppression resonator comprises a plurality of waveguide resonators that resonate in TE mode, in which harmonic suppression resonator, adjoining resonators are coupled via a plurality of coupling windows. Four coupling windows 33bc1, 33bc2, 33bc3 and 33bc4 are provided between a resonant region 51b and a resonant region adjoining the resonant region 51b. These coupling windows allow fundamental wave modes of the adjoining resonators to be coupled mainly by magnetically coupling. The coupling windows 33bc3 and 33bc4 allow second harmonic modes of the adjoining resonators to be electrically coupled, and the coupling windows 33bc1 and 33bc2 allow the second harmonic modes of the adjoining resonators to be magnetically coupled. By causing the amount of the electrically coupling and the amount of the magnetically coupling to be substantially equal, the coupling of the second harmonic modes is negated, whereby propagation of the second harmonic is blocked.
