    • There is provided a control device enabling switching of communication of a mobile terminal with one system to communication with another system while reducing power consumption and workload of the mobile terminal. The control device is used in a communication system including a first mobile communication system, a second mobile communication system, and a mobile terminal being in communication with the first mobile communication system. The control device comprises a position measuring unit for measuring the position of the mobile terminal, a judgment unit for making a determination whether or not to switch the communication of the mobile terminal from the first mobile communication system to the second mobile communication system according to a position measurement result of the position measuring unit, and a switching unit for performing the above switching operation according to the determination of the judgment unit.

    • In radio communication, the throughput reduction of a whole radio communication system caused by discarding retransmission data at the time of handover is prevented. The system includes a radio terminal for conducting data transmission and reception with a radio base station by executing one or more processes, a process executer in the radio base station for executing processes depending upon a number of processes executed in the radio terminal, and transmitting/receiving data to/from the radio terminal, a handover monitor in the radio base station for monitoring for the occurrence of handover or for the possibility of occurrence of handover in the radio terminal, and a process number controller in the radio base station for controlling the number of processes executed by the process executer according to a result of monitoring conducted by the handover monitor.

    • A radio communication system comprises a radio terminal and a plurality of base stations. The base stations communicate with the radio terminal by connecting radio links with mutually different frequencies. The base stations comprise a control signal transmitter configured to transmit control signals in a plurality of control signal time slots included in one frame.     • An image of a scanning position on a faceplate on a light receiving region defined by an arrangement of n light receiving elements such that an amount of light received by the light receiving region becomes a peak at a center of the light receiving region in an arranging direction of the light receiving elements and is gradually reduced substantially symmetrically toward both ends thereof in the same direction. Therefore, if there is no defect in the surface of the faceplate, levels of light receiving signals of the light receiving elements arranged substantially symmetrically in position on both sides of the light receiving region with respect to the center thereof as a reference are substantially equal and there is no substantial difference therebetween. When there is a recessed or protruded defect in a scan position of the faceplate surface, the image on the light receiving region is shifted in either direction from the center by light reflected by a side slope portion of the recessed or protruded defect and the difference of the levels of the light receiving signals in symmetrical positions becomes large. The defect is detected when the difference is larger than a predetermined value.

    • Inspection with respect to a defect on a surface of a substrate with an inherent or partial wave-like distortion is performed with high accuracy in consideration with the fluctuation caused by the wave-like distortion detected by the defect in excess of the signal level. The substrate is diagonally illuminated while being rotated and moved toward one axial direction to detect the specular reflected light and the scattered light. Based on the detected signal waveform, the state with respect to the inherent or partial wave-like distortion is determined. When the wave-like distortion exists in the substrate, the waveform is divided, and the threshold value is set for the divided regions. The signal higher than the threshold value will be output or displayed as the defect.
