    • The communication terminal and a communication system is capable of eliminating necessity of complicated setting inputs related to communication in a communication terminal in performing dial-up connection to a communication apparatus on a network from the communication terminal. Since the communication terminal and the communication system are provided with a receiving device which receives connection information such as a dial-up telephone number, attribute information, a URL, an IP address, gateway information and a DNS that is required for making communication connection to a photograph sharing service on the Internet from a cellular phone and a transmitting and receiving device (transmitting and receiving device) which sends and receives information such as an image to and from the photograph sharing service based on the connection information received from the cellular phone, it becomes possible to eliminate necessity of complicated setting inputs related to communication in an electronic camera in performing dial-up connection to the Internet from the electronic camera.

    • In the detection of face images, features for the purpose of detecting face images can be added on to supplement existing features. A face detecting apparatus includes a ROM, which stores data representing features for detecting face images having inclination angles at increments of 90° in the image of a subject. The face detecting apparatus is further provided with a connection terminal to which a flash ROM can be removably connected. The flash ROM stores data representing features for detecting face images having inclination angles finer than those of the images of the faces having inclination angles capable of being detected by the data representing the features that have been stored in the ROM. Face images can be detected more accurately by connecting the flash ROM to the face detecting apparatus.

    • An automatic white balance adjusting method is disclosed in which color difference signals (E.sub.R -E.sub.y) and (E.sub.B -E.sub.y) are respectively integrated over the entire screen and the gains of red and blue signals are controlled so that the respective integration average values of these two color difference signals can coincide with their respective predetermined reference levels. In the integration of the above color difference signals, integration of the color difference signals of chromatic colors is prohibited. In the automatic white balance adjusting method, in order to check whether the respective color difference signals are chromatic colors or not, the respective color difference signals are added together and subtracted from each other to thereby generate color signals (E.sub.R +E.sub.B -2E.sub.y) and (E.sub.R -E.sub.B) and it may be checked whether at least one of these color signals goes beyond threshold levels for removal of chromatic colors respectively set correspondingly to the respective color signals.

    • In a focus control apparatus of a camera, a luminance signal component having a relatively high frequency is extracted from a video signal by use of a filter so as to accumulate the extracted luminance signal component by an accumulator. A difference circuit computes a difference in the accumulated signal component between two adjacent horizontal scanning lines such that the maximum value of the difference is held by an accumulator unit for a vertical scanning period. The focus of the lens is controlled such that the accumulated value produced by the accumulator unit takes the maximum value. A high focusing accuracy is obtained not only for an image in which the luminance greatly varies in the horizontal direction of the image having a vertical stripe pattern but also for an image associated with a large change only in the vertical direction having an image of vertical stripes.
