    • An electric control apparatus for a fuel injection pump comprises a fuel flow sensor for detecting the net quantity of fuel supplied to the fuel injection pump, operating condition sensors for detecting operating condition parameters of an engine, a servo device for driving a fuel injection quantity controlling element of the fuel injection pump which controls the fuel injection quantity of the fuel injection pump, and an electric control circuit for receiving detection signals from the fuel flow sensor and the operating condition sensors, computing the actual fuel injection quantity and the desired fuel injection quantity, and determining an error between the computed actual fuel injection quantity and desired fuel injection quantity to drive the fuel injection quantity controlling element of the fuel injection pump through the servo device in accordance with an error representing signal, thereby controlling the actual fuel injection quantity at the desired fuel injection quantity.By ensuring high detection accuracy of the fuel flow sensor, it is possible to accomplish high precision control of the fuel injection quantity without utilizing the position of a moving part of the fuel injection quantity controlling element of the fuel injection pump.

    • An electrical governor for a fuel injection pump with a spill ring comprises an acceleration pedal operating amount (PA) detector, an engine rotational speed (N) detector, a spill ring displacement detector, a maximum limit injection amount pattern memory for storing the relation between the engine rotational speed (N) and the maximum smoke concentration generating injection amount (Qmax), a partial load injection amount pattern memory for storing the relation between the rotational speed (N) and the partial load injection amount (Qpar) corresponding to the acceleration pedal operating amount (PA) with the acceleration pedal operating amount (PA) as a parameter, a minimum limit injection amount pattern memory for storing the relation between the rotational speed (N) and the minimum limit injection amount (Qmin), a target position pattern memory for storing the relation between the target injection amount (Qf) and the spill ring displacement target position (V.sub.SN), microcomputer means for reading out the values Qmin, Qpar and Qmax for the detected values PA and N and calculating the values Qf' and V.sub.SN ' corresponding to the detected values PA and N by interpolation, and actuator drive means for correcting the spill ring displacement in accordance with the calculated target position V.sub.SN ', thereby correcting the change in the fuel injection amount caused by the change in rotational speed. The governor alternatively includes a target position pattern memory for storing the relation between the values PA, N and V.sub.SN for a corresponding value Qf.

    • A distributor type fuel injection pump of the invention includes a rotor, a pair of plungers reciprocated in the rotor, the pair of plungers defining a pump chamber therebetween; a shuttle cylinder; a shuttle piston, movably located in the shuttle cylinder, for dividing the interior of the shuttle cylinder into first and second pressure chambers, the second pressure chamber being always connected to the pump chamber, thereby pressurizing the fuel in the second pressure chamber by pressurization of fuel in the pump chamber by the plungers and moving the shuttle piston to pressurize the fuel in the first pressure chamber; a distribution head for distributing and supplying the pressurized fuel in the first pressure chamber to each combustion chamber of the engine; a control rod for mechanically adjusting an initial position of the shuttle piston when the fuel is supplied to the first and second pressure chambers; and a spill hole for spilling the fuel in the second pressure chamber when the shuttle piston is moved from the initial position toward a final position by the pressure of the pressurized fuel in the second pressure chamber and reaches the final position.

    • The present invention relates to a device for adjusting the injection timing of a distribution-type fuel injection pump for internal combustion engines. In the device of the present invention in which an adjusting piston is moved responsive to the fuel pressure in the high-pressure oil chamber and the resilient force of the timer spring, and the roller ring is rotated following the movement of the adjusting piston, the improvement comprises a cylinder which is provided in addition to a cylinder that accommodates the adjusting piston, and a shaft which slides in the above cylinder separately from the adjusting piston, so that the position of the adjusting piston can be adjusted by the shaft. The device employs sliding portions that do not require strict machining precision. Further, when the fuel injection pump is to be mounted on the engine, the initial timing can be easily adjusted through manipulation effected from the outer side of the fuel injection pump.

    • A method and apparatus for controlling the fuel injection timing of a compression ignition engine are featured by dithering the fuel injection timing so as to be advanced and retarded with respect to and in the vicinity of a calculated timing of injection of pressurized fuel supplied to the engine which calculated injection timing is determined in accordance with operating conditions of the engine, operating the engine alternately at the calculated fuel injection timing, the advanced fuel injection timing and the retarded fuel injection timing each during a given period of time, deciding a direction of improving a fuel consumption rate of the engine from corresponding changes of an operating condition of the engine detected when the engine is operated at the respective fuel injection timings, and correcting the calculated fuel injection timing in accordance with the result of the decision, thereby controlling the fuel injection timing at an optimum fuel injection timing which ensures an optimum fuel consumption rate.
