    • An actuator AE1 includes a lock mechanism R1 configured to fill a gas G generated by operating a gas generator 35 at inside of a cylinder 22 and moving forward a piston 38 along with a support rod 40 for restricting a rearward movement of the support rod moved forward. The support rod 40 is arranged to be able to absorb a kinetic energy of a protection object person and capable of being plastically deformed when the protection object person is received by a receiving member after having been moved forward. A lock mechanism R1 is constituted by a diameter enlarging deformed portion 42 arranged at a piston and a locking stepped portion 24 capable of restricting the rearward movement of the piston. Further, the diameter enlarging deformed portion 42 is locked by the locking stepped portion 24 by being elastically deformed by an elastic force of the diameter enlarging deformed portion 42 per se from a diameter contracting state to a diameter enlarging state when arranged to the locking stepped portion 24 after moving the piston forward.

    • An actuator includes a cylinder, a piston rod which moves forwards within the cylinder and a lock mechanism for restricting a backward movement of the piston rod that has moved forwards. The piston rod includes a piston portion and a support rod portion which is made to extend from the piston portion. The lock mechanism includes an annular elastic element which is disposed with an inner circumferential edge made to project further radially inwards than an inner circumferential surface of the cylinder and a groove which is disposed so as to extend along an outer circumferential surface of the piston portion for the annular elastic element to be fitted therein. The support rod portion includes a rod main body portion whose diameter is made smaller than an inside diameter of the annular elastic element and a tapered portion which is disposed on a piston portion side end portion of the support rod portion and which has a taper surface which is gradually expanded diametrically towards the piston portion until an outside diametrical dimension of the piston portion is reached.

    • When activated, an actuator causes a piston rod in a cylinder to move forwards so as to support a receiving member for receiving an object to be protected. A taper restricting surface in the accommodating groove on the piston portion is brought into abutment with an inner surface on a forward moving side of the lock ring which is being diametrically expanded as a result of the piston rod having moved forwards and is in abutment with the locking and restricting surface and the outer circumferential restricting surface of the locking stepped portion, whereby the backward movement of the piston rod is restricted by making use of the lock ring which is restricted in the locking stepped portion.
