    • A facsimile apparatus comprises a housing constituting the outer surface of the facsimile apparatus, an original reading section for conveying an original between a first opening portion formed in a front portion of the upper surface of the housing and a front surface opening portion formed in the front surface of the housing, and a recording section for inserting a recording sheet through a second opening portion formed in the upper surface of the housing at a position closer to the rear side than the first opening portion and for discharging the recording sheet through the first opening portion. A cut sheet can be inserted/discharged through each opening portion. Since the first opening portion is commonly used for both an original and a recording sheet, the depth of the housing can be reduced. In addition, the housing can be designed to be flat and compact so as to be easily carried. The apparatus further includes a storage portion for a battery detachably set through a side surface on the rear side of the housing. A cut sheet can be inserted/discharged through each opening portion. Since the first opening portion is commonly used for both an original and a recording sheet, the depth of the housing can be reduced. In addition, the housing can be designed to be flat and compact so as to be easily carried. Furthermore, the apparatus can be used in a place where no commercial power supply is available, by receiving power from a battery.

    • A compact facsimile apparatus has at least a minimum function required for a facsimile apparatus. The apparatus is used in either a connected state or a non-connected state with respect to a functional expansion unit including a functional expansion section for expanding the function or adding another function, a power supply section for supplying power to the compact facsimile apparatus, and a set portion serving as a mounting base for the compact facsimile apparatus. The used state of the facsimile apparatus can be properly set to be used either as a small, lightweight, compact facsimile apparatus or as a stationary type compact facsimile apparatus. In addition, a functional expansion unit comprises a roll-like sheet holder for continuously supplying a roll-like recording sheet to a recording section of a compact facsimile apparatus, a power supply section for supplying power to the compact facsimile apparatus, a set portion serving as a mounting base on which the compact facsimile apparatus is mounted, and a connector portion for connecting the compact facsimile apparatus to the unit. If the compact facsimile apparatus is connected to the unit, the resulting structure can be used as a stationary type facsimile apparatus.

The rocking mechanism drives solely the first biasing roller at the end of each operation (transmission, reception, copying), with the second biasing roller being made free and independent of the power transmission mechanism. As a result, recording paper clamped between the second biasing roller and the thermal head can be pulled out with ease.

    • An image processor includes a first image information processing unit which processes image information with respect to a sheet medium. A first sheet medium feeding path guides the sheet medium to the first image information processing unit, and exhausts the sheet medium from the first image information processing unit. A second image information processing unit processes image information with respect to a sheet medium while allowing a head for processing image information to travel serially. The second information processing unit is arranged on a side lower than the first image information processing unit. A second sheet medium feeding path guides the sheet medium to the second image information processing unit, and exhausts the sheet medium from the second image information processing unit. An electric circuit board is arranged below the feeding path of the first sheet medium, and above the feeding path of the second sheet medium. The electric circuit board is arrange on the reverse side of the head for processing image information. In this way, the number of boards and harnesses are reduced, thus reducing cost, and enhancing assembling capability and reliability.
