    • A writing instrument slip attachment mechanism is disclosed which prevents the clip (3) from becoming separated from the writing instrument. The clip attachment mechanism located on the writing instrument shaft (1) includes a clip (3) having a folded back base section (4); and a clip attachment section (2) having cooperatively shaped outer and inner surfaces (2A, 2B) for operatively engaging said folded back base section (4); and a cover (5) for attachment to said clip attachment to said clip attachment section (2). The base section (4) of the clip (3) is press-fitted into the outer and inner surfaces (2A, 2B) of the clip attachment (2). The cover (5) cover the press-fitted base section (4) and preferably also helps to lock the base section (4) to the clip attachment section (2), by use of co-operatively shaped convex and concave surfaces formed between the cover and clip attachment section (2).

    • In a mechanical pencil capable of double-chuck and side-knock type lead control functions, a slide member is axially slidably fitted in a barrel fixedly provided at its front end with a head cap, a knocking member is pivotally supported in an opening formed in the barrel to operate the slide member so that a lead projecting back chuck on which a chuck ring is loosely fitted is advanced against the resilience of a chuck spring biasing the lead projecting back chuck backward to project a lead, a sleeve is fitted on the back chuck, an inner barrel is fitted on the sleeve, and a lead holding front chuck is placed in the head cap and is biased backward by a spring.

    • A writing instrument includes a tubular body, a guide sleeve, an outer sleeve, and a holder. The outer sleeve includes at least one groove on an inner surface thereof, and the guide sleeve includes at least one rib on a forward portion thereof to engage the groove of the outer sleeve. An inclined surface continuously inclining relative to the axial direction of the outer sleeve is formed at a rearward end portion of either side wall of the groove such that a width of the groove becomes wider in a direction of the rearward end. An inclined surface continuously inclining relative to the axial direction of the outer sleeve is formed at a forward end portion of either side wall of the rib such that a width of the rib becomes smaller in a direction of the forward end. An inclined angle of the inclined surface of the groove is not less than that of the inclined surface of the rib.
