A rolling gate in one end position closes the loading opening and after covering of the upper opening of the loading chute by the shield, can be moved into another end position which flees the loading opening. The opening and closing movements of the rolling gate are controlled by contact-less transmitters which detect the position of the pallet container in the chute.

During the heavy load mode of operation, the normal load lifting mechanism of the harbor crane is used as a luffing mechanism for the jib, for which purpose the normal load hoisting cables are detached from the normal load snatch block and fixed to the jib head. In the heavy load mode of operation, the unloaded luffing cylinder is a fall-back support for the jib. The mobile harbor crane further includes an increased righting moment for the heavy load mode of operation.
