    • The dressing tool is mounted on a cross-slide so as to be displaceable in parallel and normally with respect to the working surface or face of the grinding wheel which is to be dressed. After each dressing operation the grinding wheel is re-adjusted so as to be repositioned in a defined plane. A displacement measuring system is operatively coupled to the grinding wheel in order to measure the amount of such re-adjustment or adjustment. A difference observed between the desired amount of dressing and the measured amount of adjustment indicates the extent of wear of the dressing tool. The dressing tool is then correspondingly further adjusted and the grinding wheel is subjected to a further dressing operation.

    • A grinding wheel contains two ring-shaped flanks and is axially displaceable by an axial drive. A radial slide is radially adjustably displaceable relative to the grinding wheel by a radial drive. Both of the displacements in axial and radial direction can be measured by a respective displacement path measuring device. Two dressing tools can be independently reciprocatingly displaced between an operative position and a wear measuring position at the radial slide. A wear measuring device is arranged at the radial slide for measuring in a direction extending substantially parallel to the grinding wheel axis the wear of the dressing tools. The relative displacement in the direction of the grinding wheel axis is governed by the desired flank profile, and a control increases such relative displacement in the direction of the grinding wheel axis by the amount of the wear of the dressing tools.

    • Gear pitch testing apparatus has a computer control for programming relative displacements between a gear and a pair of probes, and means for automatically comparing test data with stored reference values to indicate deviations in the gear under test. Initial setting of the apparatus for a test sequence requires the operator only to control the relative displacements of the gear and probes to synchronise them approximately, the coarse adjustment thus obtained then being automatically modified in an electronically controlled fine adjustment stage to co-ordinate the movement between the gear and the probes accurately and allow such characteristics as absolute cumulative pitch error to be evaluated.

    • A method of measuring errors in the rotational truth of gear teeth of a gear by means of a measuring device having a feeler guide which is pivotable about a pivot axis parallel to the gear axis, the feeler guide guiding a feeler which is prebiased in the direction of the gear and cyclically engages into the gear teeth as the gear rotates. The feeler together with the feeler guide is pivotable about its pivot axis and can be displaced back in relation to the feeler guide. An electronic circuit determines the largest degree of rearward displacement of the feeler during each measuring cycle in that it stores signals delivered by the feeler and compares such stored signals with one another. During each measuring cycle there is formed from a number of signals delivered by the feeler as well as from a number of subsequently delivered signals a respective mean value. Both mean values are compared with one another, the larger of such mean values, to the extent that it constitutes the mean value of the later signals is stored, and this procedure is repeated for such length of time until there is present a mean value which is smaller than the directly previously formed mean value, whereupon such previously formed mean value is delivered as the maximum value of the related measuring cycle.
