    • A display apparatus and display method are provided. The display apparatus capable of displaying an image and receiving light simultaneously or alternately, the display apparatus including: a plurality of display devices laid out to form a matrix; a plurality of light receiving devices for receiving light hitting a display screen; a received-light image generation unit for generating image data representing the state of a substance brought into contact with the display screen or brought to a position in close proximity to the display screen; an image processing/evaluating unit for evaluating the position and size of a substance as well as evaluating changes in the position and in the size; and a command determination unit for recognizing a command entered by an operator. In the display apparatus, predetermined processing according to a command recognized by the command determination unit is carried out.

    • A liquid-crystal display apparatus is provided. The liquid-crystal display apparatus including: a light source for generating visible-domain light and invisible-domain light; a plurality of liquid-crystal devices laid out in a display face region of the liquid-crystal display apparatus for modulating visible-domain light and transmitting invisible domain light generated by the light source; a plurality of light receiving devices laid out in the display face region as devices each used for receiving invisible-domain light; a display driving section configured to drive the liquid-crystal devices so as to radiate visible-domain light from the display face as display light; a light-reception driving section configured to drive the light receiving devices to detect invisible-domain light radiated from the display face and reflected by a detection-subject object as detected light; and a detection section configured to detect the detection-subject object on the basis of a received-light signal obtained from the light receiving devices.

    • The present invention includes a display device for displaying an image and receiving light simultaneously or alternately. The display device includes: a plurality of display elements for displaying the image on a display surface of the display device by emitting light; a plurality of light receiving elements for receiving light incident on the display surface formed by the display elements; a storing unit for storing, as an initial value, a difference between two amounts of light received by the light receiving elements; and a detecting unit for detecting a state of contact with or proximity to the display surface and subtracting the initial value stored by the storing unit from a difference between the two detected amounts of received light.

    • A display includes: display pixel electrodes; common electrodes; a display layer; a display control circuit; touch detection electrodes; and a touch detection circuit detecting an external proximity object based on a detection signal obtained from the touch detection electrodes with use of a common drive voltage for display applied to the common electrode as a touch sensor drive signal. The touch detection circuit includes: a first filter allowing a fundamental detection signal, contained in the detection signal and having a frequency same as a fundamental frequency of the touch sensor drive signal, to pass therethrough, a plurality of second filters separately allowing two or more harmonic detection signals, contained in the detection signal and having frequencies same as respective harmonic frequencies of the touch sensor drive signal, to pass therethrough, and a detection section performing a detection operation based on the fundamental detection signal and the harmonic detection signals.
