    • A method and arrangement for connecting an ad-hoc communication network (101) to a permanent communication network (102), e.g. to a cellular mobile communication network. The ad-hoc communication network is established between communication devices (103-106) and a gateway device (107) using a routing protocol that is run in the gateway device and in the communication devices. A protocol address that is associated in a communication device with a protocol data unit is determined on the basis of a control action given by a user of the communication device. In a gateway device, the protocol data unit is relayed to the permanent communication network if the protocol data unit is provided with a pre-determined protocol address. The user of the communication device can determine with the aid of the control action whether he is communicating only inside the ad-hoc communication network or via the permanent communication network.

    • The invention relates to a method for selecting an access point in a wireless communication system comprising mobile terminals and access points. To enable the mobile terminals to take into account the prevailing conditions within the entire coverage area of an access point more effectively than before, sets of attributes are sent from mobile terminals to the currently serving access point, each set to contain at least one attribute indicating the quality of a wireless link between the serving access point and the sending mobile terminal. Based on the sets, a service report describing current service conditions in the coverage area of the access point is formed and transmitted to at least one mobile terminal. This terminal examines the service report of at least one access point and, based on the examination, selects the access point to which a wireless link is to be established.

    • The present invention provides an operational mode of communication which adjusts a transmitting power of a cellular system and a mobile terminal used inside a vehicle, such as an aircraft, so that the mobile terminals (102) inside the aircraft camp on the indoor cellular network (100) inside the aircraft and do not interfere with external cellular networks. This reduces possible electromagnetic interference with avionics inside the aircraft, because the transmitted power levels is limited. The frequency band used by the indoor cellular network can be determined by the service provider independent of frequency bands allocated by communication specifications and regulations. Conventional mobile terminals (102) and conventional base transceiver stations (104) applying the aircraft profile according to the invention can be used inside the aircraft while aboard to communicate with the conventional external cellular networks (150).
