摘要： An earth boring drill bit comprising: one or more legs; a bit body having a blade and a slot for receiving the leg; and one or more wedge between the leg and the slot fixing the leg within the slot. The slot may have two parallel sidewalls with one of the sidewalls forming an acute angle and the other forming an obtuse angle. The wedge may be secured immediately next to the obtuse angled sidewall. The wedge may have two obtuse angled sides. One or more bolts through each wedge may secure both the wedge and the leg to the bit body. In a preferred embodiment, an obtuse angled sidewall of the wedge is preferably secured immediately next to an acute angled side of the leg.

Each of the holes has a cylindrical sidewall with a depth greater than the length of the barrel of the insert mounted within. The difference in depth is at least equal to a distorted entry zone in the hole. A portion of the sidewall that includes the entry zone surrounds the cutting end, reducing the projection of the cutting end from the land.

Annular spaces are located between the outer row and the adjacent row on each of the cones. The annular space on one cone has a width that is less than the annular spaces on the other cones. The width of the narrowest annular space is greater than the width of the crests of the adjacent row.

摘要： A reaming bit designed to operate with low torque fluctuation when driven with a turbine at speeds in the order of 300-600 RPM and above features a profile that is arcuate from the gauge dimension to the nose area or alternatively has a blunt straight taper section but with a ratio of profile length (PL) to bit size (BS) of under 0.75. The blades extend into a concave cone and the cutting structure continues along the blades towards the center. The blades have a step near the gauge section to increase the exposure of the blade cutting structure. An array of protrusions are disposed parallel to and behind the cutting structure to increase high speed stability and adjacent the blade step transition to protect outer casing on run in.
