    • A tricone rock bit for horizontal wells and hard formation wells includes three head sections and three cones arranged at the lower ends of the head sections, where the supper parts of the three head sections are connected together to form one integrated drill bit body; jet nozzle bosses are arranged between the head sections on the drill bit body; jet nozzles are mounted in nozzle holes of the jet nozzle bosses; gauge cutting elements are arranged on the top rear of the OD of the head sections, forming a gauge surface on the top of the head sections; the front face of the head sections is a ruled surface, inclining backwards at an angle α, and inclining outwards at an angle β. The tricone rock bit has low lateral vibrations, high stability, good effects of bottom hole cleaning and cutting element cooling, long service life and high penetration rate.

    • A drill bit and a method of drilling a wellbore utilizing the drill bit is disclosed, including: providing a drill bit including a bit body and at least one movable member associated with a lateral extent of the bit body; conveying a drill string into a formation, the drill string having the drill bit at the end thereof; drilling the wellbore using the drill string; selectively extending the at least one moveable member from the lateral extent of the bit body at a first rate; and selectively retracting the at least one moveable member to a retracted position at a second rate that is less than the first rate.

    • A rotary drill bit having blades with gage pads disposed on exterior portions thereof to improve steerability of the rotary drill bit during formation of a directional wellbore without sacrifice of lateral stability. One or more of the gage pads may include radially tapered exterior portions and/or cut out portions to assist with reducing wear of the associated gage pad. For some applications, a rotary drill bit may be formed having blades with gage pads having a relatively uniform exterior surface. Hard facing material and/or buttons may be disposed on exterior portions of the gage pad to form a radially tapered portion to improve steerability, reduce wear of the gage pad and/or improve ability of the rotary drill to form a wellbore having a generally uniform inside diameter, particularly during directional drilling of the wellbore.

    • The present invention recites a drill bit comprising a main body having an axis about which it is rotated in use, a cutting face, a connecting means for attaching the bit to a source of rotary motion, a gauge region intermediate said cutting face and the connecting means. Additionally the gauge region comprises at least one member movable between a first position in which the gauge region is bounded by an imaginary tubular surface of constant cross-section co-axial to the axis of rotation and a second position in which a portion of the member is located radially inwards, with respect to the axis of rotation, of its position when said member is in said first position. In accordance with the present invention, the gauge region whilst said member is in said second position being bound by an imaginary three dimensional conical sectional surface; and at least one actuator.
