    • A system for driving a torsion based on frequency, amplitude and offset control signals includes a pulse width modulator subsystem configured to generate output pulses having controlled pulse durations alternately to each of two channels, the output pulses encoding the frequency, amplitude and offset control signals. A driver circuit is configured for driving the torsion oscillator with a voltage of one polarity during a pulse output to the one of the channels, and a voltage of opposite polarity during a pulse output to the other of the channels.

    • A barrier device forms an inflatable barrier that restricts an object from passing through an opening at the periphery of a support structure, such that a substantial portion of the opening is blocked. The support structure may include furniture. A bladder is inflated with a gas to conform to the size of the opening. The bladder has a first region and a second region that fold over each other to conform to the size of the opening for providing a more substantial barrier. A first end and a second end have an inlet for enabling passage of the gas to and from an interior region of the bladder. In this manner, the size of the bladder can be adjusted. A handle on either end facilities mobility of the device.

    • A microsensor for detecting corrosive media acting on a bulk metallic material when mounted in situ adjacent a location in the bulk metallic material. The microsensor includes a plurality of corrosive tracks (16; 132; 216B) exposed to the corrosive media, each said corrosive track being formed as a patterned conductive thin film track. The tracks follow serpentine paths which include a plurality of bends, at least two of which are of opposite curvature, to provide a high degree of miniaturisation coupled with accurate and reliable corrosion sensing characteristics. The corrosive tracks may be formed from an alloy material, such as an aluminium alloy, to mimic the corrosive characteristics of a bulk metallic alloy and to provide improved corrosion detection for components made from such materials at high degrees of miniaturisation.

    • Balancing image cash letters (“ICLs”) and ICL items during electronic check processing includes determining whether each item has been presented to a receiving institution for payment. A tracking module can track an incoming ICL/item's processing status using records comprising information regarding the ICL/item's status for electronic check processing events. The tracking module can present the ICL/item's processing status in one or more reports. The tracking module can balance an ICL by comparing an incoming ICL value amount with an outgoing ICL value amount. The incoming ICL value amount comprises the total value of the items in the incoming ICL. The outgoing ICL value amount comprises the total value of the items in the incoming ICL that have been presented to a receiving institution via one or more outgoing ICLs. If the amounts match, then the incoming ICL is balanced. If not, then the ICL is not balanced.
