    • An engine tensioning system including a pair of pivoting arms used to simultaneously tension two separate strands of the same chain in an engine timing system. The tensioner system includes a lever. The lever has a pair of fixed pins attached to an end located between the two strands of chain. The arms extend outside separate strands of the chain and carry shoes positioned to contact an outside portion of the chain are pivotally mounted to the fixed pins. Rotation of the lever causes the fixed pins to move laterally with respect to the chain strands and cause the arms to draw inwardly. The inward movement of the arms draw the shoes into contact with the chain strands and impart tension to the separate strands of the chain simultaneously.

    • A flexible coupling linkage (14) anchors a housing (16) that at least partially encloses a rotor (18) of an actuator (22) against rotation, while allowing free movement of the housing (16) in two other planes relative to the rotor (18) to match an angular rotational plane orientation of the rotor (18) to prevent binding between the housing (16) and the rotor (18) due to misalignment. The flexible coupling linkage (14) can be selected from a group of pivot joints (24a, 24b) including at least one of a pivot pin joint (30, 34), a ball-and-socket joint (32), and any combination thereof. The pivot joint (24) defines a restrained point (26a, 26b) associated with the housing (16) radially spaced from an axis of rotation of the rotor (18) preventing rotation of the housing (16) about the axis of rotation of the rotor (18), while allowing angular displacement of the housing (16) about the restrained point (26a, 26b) permitting the housing (16) to match an angle of the rotor (18) to prevent binding between the housing (16) and the rotor (18).

    • A ratcheting tensioning device for a closed loop chain driven power transmission system of an internal combustion engine consisting of a base tensioner arm (12) and an adjusting tensioner arm (14) which each contact different strands or chain. Optionally, each arm may have a chain guide element for contacting the chain. The two tensioner arms (12, 14) are connected by a link plate (16) that is pivotally mounted to the base tensioner arm (12) in proximity to a first edge (24) of the link plate (16). A channel (52) located in proximity to a second edge (25) of the link plate (16) which allows a pin or sleeved bolt, to be securely attached to the adjusting tensioner arm (14), to traverse along the length of the channel (52) to urge the two tensioner arms (12, 14) toward each other in response to progressively increasing slack in the chain caused by the wearing over time of the components of the power transmission system.
