    • Peptides which bind to alpha-1 Proteinase inhibitor (AlPI) are disclosed. The peptides have an available AlPI binding domain which may be any of the following preferred sequences: Val Ile Trp Leu Val Arg, Ile Ile Trp Leu Tyr Lys, Arg Tyr Arg Ile Phe Ile, Arg Ala Phe Trp Tyr Ile, Arg Phe Ile Tyr Tyr Thr, Tyr Lys Phe Arg Phe Trp, Leu Ile Val His Arg Trp, Pro Tyr Trp Ile Val Arg, Ala Arg Trp Tyr Ile His, Gln Tyr His Phe Trp Tyr, Arg Leu Trp Arg Tyr Gly, Val Ile Tyr Leu Val Arg, Val Ile Phe Leu Val Arg, Lys Ile Phe Leu Val Arg, Arg Ile Phe Leu Val Arg, His Ile Phe Leu Val Arg, Arg Val Leu Phe Ile Val, or Arg Val Leu Phe Ile His (SEQ ID NOS: 1-8, 10, 11, 15, 36, 37, 45, 46, 47, 61, and 62 respectively). A method of using peptides having these available binding domains in an affinity chromatography process to purify AlPI is described.

    • A cargo-handling apparatus which includes a cargo platform for airplanes which is structurally configured to prevent swaying of the cargo platform during loading and unloading of cargo from an aircraft. A pair of braced channel members are provided, which in their operative position extend vertically downward from both sides of the cargo hold of the aircraft, with a cargo platform positioned therebetween. The channel members are braced against movement by a pair of jury struts which extend between each channel member and the body of the aircraft, and a pair of cross braces extending between the channel members. The cargo platform moves up and down between and is guided by the channel members under the control of a power drive unit. The jury struts are disconnectable from the aircraft, and the combination of the jury struts, the braced channel members and the cargo platform is foldable such that the combination is stowable just inside the cargo hold door.

    • A scanning polygon assembly is provided which comprises a plurality of identical facet blocks arranged in abutting relationship on a platform. The platform has an annular lip against which two corners of each block abut so the facets form chords along the lip to form a polygon. The abutting relationship between the blocks is a tight fit but not a forced fit in order that the blocks are free enough to allow the corners to engage the lip (and thus assure such engagement) due to the centrifugal force exerted thereon during rotation of the polygon.

    • A shuttle conveyor for moving articles fore and aft on a cargo support such as the baggage area in an aircraft cargo compartment comprises a shuttle carriage assembly travelling in tracks moved fore and aft by a cable. A control mechanism is provided to raise and lower selectively one of two cargo engaging pawls mounted on the shuttle carriage. The pawls are adapted to move cargo forward or aft in the compartment and are operated by a cable or chain operator.

    • A rotatable "Y" scan mirror for a flat field scanning system is provided whereby the mirror is shifted in opposite directions transverse to its pivotable axis and is simultaneously rotated in one direction during a scanning cycle. A pair of cams is mounted on a common rotatable shaft for rotation therewith. One of the cams actuates a link connected to a pivot pin on which the mirror rotates. The other cam actuates an arm which is connected to the mirror to rotate the same. The cams are so designed to cause shifting of the mirror to maintain a constant length optical path to the medium being scanned and to cause rotation of the mirror in such a manner that the rate of scanning across the medium will be constant.
