摘要： An apparatus for detecting properties of a sample. An electron beam generator produces an electron beam and directs the electron beam at a desired point on the sample. The sample thereby emits characteristic x-rays at takeoff angles. A collimator receives and parallelizes the x-rays and converts the takeoff angles of the x-rays to positional differences between the parallelized x-rays. A diffractor receives and deflects the x-rays. A position sensitive detector receives the deflected x-rays and detects the positional differences between the x-rays, and generates signals that are characteristic of the received x-rays. An analyzer receives the signals from the detector and determines the properties of the sample based at least in part on the positional differences between the x-rays.

摘要： X-ray monochromators and electron probe micro-analysis (EPMA) systems using such monochromators are disclosed. A turretless x-ray monochromator may have a cassette of reflectors instead of a turret. The cassette stores a plurality of reflectors that can be inserted into a conventional Rowland circle monochromator geometry. A transfer mechanism selectively moves reflectors from the cassette to a reflector positioner. The use of the cassette allows each reflector to be placed closer to a source of x-rays, thereby allowing a larger solid angle for x-ray collection. An alternative x-ray monochromator uses a non-focusing reflector that can be fixed, scanned axially or scanned radially to provide large solid angle detection of x-rays at various energies with a single reflector.

摘要： A composition is disclosed for a biodegradable, blendable plastic having improved tensile strength. It consists of starch, oxidized polyethylene, and polyethylene. The starch is included in an amount up to 50% by weight, the oxidized polyethylene up to 15% by weight, and the remaining amount is polyethylene. It is preferred that high molecular weight oxidized polyethylene be used and in the method of producing the composition, it is preferred that the blending of the components occur at a temperature range of 110.degree. C. to 200.degree. C.

摘要： A hitch for a work machine such as an agricultural tractor permits controlled towing of an implement behind the work machine. The hitch is attached to the machine frame. The hitch includes first and second draft arms that are pivotally connected with and spaced apart on the frame by intermediate links. The intermediate links provide pivotal movement of the draft arms constrained about a first horizontal axis. The intermediate links also provide pivotal movement of the first draft arm constrained about a second axis, and of the second draft arm constrained about a third axis. At least one draft cylinder is connected to one of the intermediate links and to a respective draft arm. The hitch incorporates multiple degrees of movement in a compact package and is useful as a steerable component of the machine to provide positive steering force.

The method includes using an X-ray beam to generate an XPS signal from a sample and normalizing the XPS signal with a measured or estimated flux of the X-ray beam. The system includes an X-ray source for generating an X-ray beam and a sample holder for positioning a sample in a pathway of the X-ray beam. A detector is included for collecting an XPS signal generated by bombarding the sample with the X-ray beam. Also included are a flux detector for determining a measured or estimated flux of the X-ray beam and a computing system for normalizing the XPS signal with the measured or estimated flux of the X-ray beam.

摘要： An arc-interrupting compound, such as melamine, and to a method of extinguishing an arc by disposing the composition along the path of the arc, for contacting the arc. In one embodiment, the binder, or at least a portion of the binder, is a polymer that contains a functional group that binds to a coupling agent that is included in the arc-extinguishing composition. The coupling agent ties the polymeric binder to the arc-extinguishing compound, e.g., melamine, to provide new and unexpected physical strength and stability to the composition. In this embodiment, the molded composition, including the arc-interrupting compound coupled to the binder, maintains excellent arc-interrupting capability, while providing chemical stability and electrical insulating properties as well as unexpected physical strength.
