    • A tensioner lever for chain drives has an internal space formed therein for accommodating within it at least a coiled portion of a torsion coil spring. The internal space has an opening for enabling the torsion coil spring to be assembled in the internal space. The lever body further has a boss disposed inside the internal space. The boss has an axial hole through which a pivot shaft extends and an outer peripheral surface around which the coiled portion of the torsion coil spring is loosely fitted, the axial hole and the outer peripheral surface being concentric with each other. The tensioner lever of the foregoing construction requires only a small space for installation to a mount surface and can be easily and speedily assembled onto the mount surface.

    • A tensioner for an endless power transmission chain or belt comprises a transmission-engaging element for directly contacting the transmission and applying tension thereto while permitting the transmission to move past the transmission-engaging element, a sliding element mounted for longitudinal movement along a line of movement extending toward the transmission-engaging element, a spring urging the sliding element along said line of movement in a direction toward the transmission-engaging element, and a pad made of plastics material, secured to an end of the sliding element and urged into engagement with the transmission-engaging element by the spring whereby the transmission-engaging element is urged against said transmission by the pad. The pad is mounted on a plate on the end of the sliding element, and secured to the plate by resilient engagement of the plate in an interior space or pocket of the pad, or by the engagement of molded projections of the pad with holes or recesses of the plate, or by press-fitting the sliding element into a hole in a plate received in an interior space within the pad.

    • In a pivoting guide for a traveling transmission chain, composed of a synthetic resin body having a shoe and a slotted reinforcement, and a plate fitting into the slot, the plate has a mounting hole received on a boss formed on the guide body and coaxial with a mounting hole on the guide body which receives a pivot shaft. This structure facilitates assembly and mounting because the plate is securely attached to the guide body before the assembly is mounted. The plate does not contact the pivot shaft, and therefore full advantage is taken of the self-lubricating property of the synthetic resin. The boss may be elongated so that the length of the mounting hole of the guide body is greater than the width of the shoe so that wear in of the guide body due to biased loads is dispersed, and the useful life of the guide is extended.

    • A chain tensioning device includes a pair of levers interconnected and fixed at one end to a rotatably supported base and extending along the chain to be tensioned and a tensioner connected to the other end of one of the pair of levers. One of the levers is disposed on the end side of the chain to be tensioned as viewed from the rotatably supported base and has a convexly curved surface touching internally the chain, and a shoe attached to the convexly curved surface. The other of the levers is disposed on the departure side of the chain as viewed from the base and has a convexly curved surface touching externally the chain, and a shoe attached to the convexly curved surface. A projection on a side of the one of the levers opposite to the shoe for receiving a thrusting force from the tensioner 20 and applying such thrusting force to the interconnected levers.
