    • A method is provided for video sharing in a vehicle-to-entity communication system. Video data is captured by an image capture device of an event remote from a source entity. A spatial relationship is determined between a location corresponding to the captured event and a location of a remote vehicle. A temporal relationship is determined between a time-stamp of the captured scene data and a current time. A utility value is determined as a function of the spatial relationship and the temporal relationship. A network utilization parameter of a communication network is determined for broadcasting and receiving the scene data. A selected level of compression is applied to the captured scene data as a function of the utility value and available bandwidth. The compressed scene data is transmitted from the source entity to the remote vehicle.

    • A system and method for providing real-time traffic information using a wireless vehicle-to-vehicle communications network. A vehicle includes a plurality of sensors that detect other vehicles around the vehicle. The wireless communications system on the vehicle uses the sensor signals to calculate a traffic condition index that identifies traffic information around the vehicle. The vehicle broadcasts the traffic condition index to other vehicles and/or road side infrastructure units that can present the information to the vehicle driver, such as in a navigation system, and/or rebroadcast the traffic information to other vehicles. The traffic condition index can be calculated using the speed of the surrounding vehicles, posted speed limits, the distance between the surrounding vehicles and the traffic density of the surrounding vehicles.

    • A method and system for integrating a camera-equipped handheld mobile device with a vehicle's electronic systems, such that the imaging capabilities of the mobile device can be utilized by the vehicle, and information from vehicle's systems can be utilized by the mobile device. The mobile device is placed in a mounting fixture, which can provide power to the mobile device, and is designed to dynamically aim the mobile device's camera based on driving conditions. The mobile device can communicate with the vehicle's systems wirelessly, or via a wired connection. Images from the mobile device's camera are provided to a processor onboard the vehicle, and can be used by vehicle safety and convenience systems. The mobile device can also receive information from the vehicle and use the information in applications on the mobile device. Computing workload can be shared between the vehicle's processor and the mobile device.
