    • Composite material spring modules and methods of manufacture are described having a fiber reinforced composite material spring body with attachment fittings integrally formed about the spring body. The attachment fittings are molded of a flexible material which dynamically responds to changes in the shape of the spring body upon deflection. Integral formation of the fittings with the spring body provides a unified single piece module which is readily attachable to any structure where spring support is desired. The composite material spring modules exhibit the properties of stiffness and return to uncompressed state from total depth deflection without set. The composite material spring modules with integrally formed fittings are described a mattress foundation, by attachment to high and low profile frames and to an overlying grid. Methods of manufacture of the composite material spring modules with integrally formed attachment fittings are described. Methods of assembly of flexible weight bearing structures such as mattress foundations using the composite material spring modules with integrally formed attachment fittings are also described.

    • High and low profile mattress foundation frames have perimeter and transverse members, and upper members to which spring modules are attached to support a grid over the frame, to form a flexible support surface for a mattress. In a high profile version of the frame, transverse members are oriented with a major width perpendicular to a major width of the perimeter members, to provide structural rigidity and increased height to the frame. Low profile spring modules, such as the described composite material spring modules, supported by the high profile frame form a foundation which is comparable in overall height to conventional mattress foundations which use wire-form spring modules. In a low profile version of the frame, the major widths of the perimeter and transverse members are arranged parallel, and longitudinal members are supported by the transverse members. Spring modules, such as the described composite material spring modules with integrally formed attachment fittings, are attached to the longitudinal members. The low profile foundation can be used with mattresses of larger-than-average thickness, without excessively increasing the overall height of the bedding ensemble. The high and low profile foundations include relatively small facia boards oriented with a major width vertical, to economically provide a continuous exterior surface to the frame perimeter as an upholstery frame.

    • An apparatus particularly suited for measuring the shape or contour of a surface under load, such as a mattress, is comprised of a humanoid having body limb extremities which are movable in a manner similar to the movement of comparable human extremities. Sensors are placed at joints, such as the knees and hips, to measure the amount of relative movement, i.e. deflection, that occurs at these joints when the humanoid is placed upon a mattress surface. The sensors provide an indication of the shape or contour of the mattress surface by correlation of the relative movement that occurs at these joints caused by the underlying mattress shape. In its preferred form, a movable frame is provided to raise and lower the humanoid in relation to the mattress surface to be tested. A "spine" is also advantageously provided with associated sensors to measure deflection, and thus surface contour, in the lower torso/abdominal region.

    • A dumpster screen comprising a fenced enclosure around one (1) or more trash dumpsters commonly found by commercial establishments. The fence material is made of an outdoor weather-proof textile material supported on its vertical sides using fence posts and along its horizontal edges using cables. A front portion of the enclosure, typically accessed by trucks to empty the dumpsters, comprises a gate portion. This enables the incoming truck to lower its forks across the reinforced top of said gate and continue lowering it until it can remove the dumpster in the normal manner. After emptying, the dumpster is replaced in the same manner and the front barrier automatically returns to position.
