    • The apparatus of the present invention utilizes a bricklaying robot which comprises an automatic brick-handling or grabbing device fastened to the end of a main arm which is carried by a frame mounted on a work platform; and which is radially movable relative to the platform. Circular movement of the arm and of the grabbing device relative to the vertical axis of the work platform is generated as result of a rotation of the platform about this vertical axis. The present invention also utilizes a storage table which is mounted underneath the main arm of the robot, so as to be movable along a vertical axis and rotatable about the axis. The present invention further includes an automatic depalletizing mechanism comprising a pivoting arm, of which one of the ends is equipped with a brick-grasping device and the other end is mounted pivotally on a support sliding parallel to the main arm of the robot between two rails of the frame. This brick lining apparatus is less bulky than known prior art apparatuses and offers monitoring personnel a greater degree of safety.

    • A device for swiveling a working unit between a rest position and a work position is disclosed. The unit has an arm and a support structure, one end of the arm being arranged in the support structure in such a way that it can swivel. A swivel arm with an actuating drive is positioned with one end arranged in the support structure in such a way that it can swivel. The other end of the swivel arm has an articulated connection with a lift drive, the second end of the lift drive has an articulated connection with the arm. The swiveling axis of the swivel arm is positioned at a set distance from the swiveling axis of the arm so that the lever arm can be raised. This allows the lift drive to transmit its power to the arm in a working position. This eccentric position of the swivel arm also allows the actuating drive of the swivel arm to switch largely without power when the arm is in the working position. The swiveling device is adapted for use for tap hole plugging machines.

    • An apparatus for actuating a proportioning valve is presented. The valve consists of a pair of registers, each register having a cut-out portion defining a variable area orifice which is generally symmetrical about a central longitudinal axis through the orifice. The registers are respectively connected to a first and second drive shaft, the drive shafts being mounted about a common axis and being mounted in bearings in a frame such that by pivoting about the common axis, the drive shafts will urge the registers to simultaneously move in opposite directions. Each of the two drive shafts are provided with an arm which are pivotably connected to a tilting lever via a connecting rod. The two tilting levers are mounted on a pivot shaft which is parallel to the common axis of the two drive shafts. The tilting levers are also connected to a driving device, i.e., a hydraulic jack which acts to pivot them about their pivot shaft so that the registers are simultaneously actuated in opposite directions. Preferrably, one of the tilting levers is a substantially straight bar while the other of the tilting levers is a bent bar, the pivot shaft being connected between about the center portion of the straight bar and the bend portion of the bent bar.

    • A machine for piercing a taphole for a shaft furnace in the so called "lost rod" method is presented. After the taphole is blocked with a taphole clay but before the taphole clay has fully hardened, a piercing rod is driven into the taphole clay by this machine so that at the desired time the taphole can be opened by extracting the piercing rod by this same machine. This piercing machine comprises a mounting, a first carriage which can be displaced along the mounting, a drive mechanism for this first carriage, guide mechanism to guide the piercing rod and finger mechanism capable of exerting axial thrust upon the piercing rod. The guide means define a guide channel for the piercing rod, which guide mechanism also has a longitudinal opening that gives access to the inside of the guide mechanism, the guide channel being perpendicular to the axis of the longitudinal opening.
