These magnesium based buffering agents control fermenter processes without causing extreme pH swings to maximize the production of desired fermentation products.

摘要： A method of simultaneously cleaning and disinfecting an industrial water system is described and claimed. The method involves the addition to the water of the industrial water system of a Compound selected from the group consisting of the alkali salts of chlorite and chlorate and mixtures thereof; and an acid, followed by allowing the water in the industrial water system to circulate for several hours. The reaction of the alkali salts of chlorite and chlorate and acid produces chlorine dioxide in-situ in the water of the industrial water system. The chlorine dioxide kills microorganisms and the acid acts to remove deposits upon the water-contact surfaces of the equipment. This cleaning and disinfecting method works in a variety of industrial water systems including cooling water systems.

Concentrations of aluminum, magnesium, and calcium-based additives are maintained at mass action concentrations to the wastewater component levels present in the wastewater and bracketed approximately +/−0.5 pH units about the pK value of the soluble, buffering species.

摘要： A method of removing dissolved oxygen from boiler water having and alkaline pH is disclosed. The method uses at least one hydrazone compound of one of the following formulae: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 are independently selected from hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.16 alkyl, aryl, substituted alkyl or substituted aryl, and R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 are independently selected from hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.16 alkyl, aryl, substituted alkyl, or substituted aryl, ##STR2## Preferably, an oxidation-reduction catalyst such as Cu(II) is used as well. The hydrazones used in the present invention are highly shelf stable and do not suffer the toxicity of hydrazine.
