    • A weed remover for removing weeds and preventing the growth of new weeds on the bed of a body of water. The weed remover comprises a housing a motor, a drive chain, and a roller having a plurality of fins attached thereto. The motor drives the drive chain which in turn rotates the roller. When the roller is rotated, the fins dig into the bed of the body of water, causing the roller to roll along the bed. The housing is attached to a dock such that it can rotate about a generally vertical axis, permitting the roller to roll in an arc. The direction of rotation of the roller can be reversed such that the roller reciprocates over substantially the same path.

    • Liquid coolant of a liquid cooling system of an engine in a motor vehicle is heated by using hot exhaust gas emitted by the engine. A heat exchanger transfers heat from the hot exhaust gas to the coolant. A portion of the coolant is transferred from the engine cooling system to the heat exchanger and then back to the engine. A diverter valve actuated by a temperature sensing device diverts the exhaust gas from an exhaust system to the heat exchanger. The temperature sensing device actuates the diverter valve at a predetermined coolant temperature diverting the exhaust gas to the heat exchanger when the coolant is cold and shuts off the flow of the exhaust gas to the heat exchanger when the coolant is sufficiently warm.

    • A log splitter having a bed for accepting a log. The bed has an operating length between first and second components, with the former a wedge. The log splitter can be placed in: (a) a first operative state wherein the bed has a first operating length; and (b) a second operative state wherein the bed has a second operating length. With the log splitter in the first operative state, the wedge is movable: (a) from a first starting position in a first lengthwise direction to effect splitting of a log; and (b) thereafter, oppositely to the first lengthwise direction back into the first starting position. In the second operative state, the wedge is movable: (a) from a second starting position to effect splitting; and (b) thereafter, back into the second starting position. The log splitter further has an operating assembly to move the first component.

    • A combined mechanical air reel for harvesting equipment has a control support-manifold tube and a plurality of depending tubes mounted on the support-manifold tubes that direct a curtain of air against grain to be cut to move the grain toward a cutter bar on which the reel is mounted. At the same time a rotatable finger carrying bat type mechanical reel, also mounted on the central support-manifold tube, is used to feed material to the cutter bar. The mechanical reel bats rotate around the outside of the support-manifold tube. The bats extend parallel to the cutter bar, and the postion of fingers on the bats is controlled by a cam action that permits the bats and the fingers to enter and exit the grain substantially vertically to reduce shattering of the grain. A positive cam drive is provided for actuating the fingers. Because an air assist is used for feeding, the rotating mechanical portion of the reel can be rotated slower than conventional reels and positioned higher in the crop to reduce shattering and wrapping, and to also improve visibility of the cutter bar. The air flow from the depending tubes improves feeding, and saves and keeps the cutter bar clean of shelled crop.

    • An apparatus and method for heating a dead, cold, fluid cooled internal combustion engine which includes the use of another internal combustion engine with a cooling system having heated coolant circulated by a circulation pump and transferring the heated coolant to the cold engine cooling system. The apparatus includes three male quick couplings communicating with the cooling system and rigidly attached to each engine and a pair of coolant transfer conduits with female quick couplings at both ends. The male quick couplings are connected by the transfer for conduits and the heated coolant is transferred to the cold, dead engine and back to the hot service engine to be warmed up again. Either engine may be used as the hot service engine or can receive heated coolant from a hot service engine.
