    • A method and apparatus for forming a round end on a small plastic filament which includes a die having a channel extending into one side with a hemispherical interior end and a bore extending into the other side and coaxially aligned with the channel and having a conic interior end. The tip of the conic section communicates with the hemispherical section. A relief recess is spaced from the periphery of the hemispherical section by a land portion. The peripheral edge of the land portion, which also forms the edge of the channel, may be formed into a knife edge. In the die the filament is cold-formed to provide a hemispherical section spaced apart from the distal end of the filament. Material displaced during the cold-forming process is deposited in a relief section extending peripherally about the channel. When the cold-formed filament is removed from the die, the portion of the filament distal of the hemispheric portion is cut off and discarded, and the flash and displaced material is removed from the filament by abrasive tumbling.

    • A universal anterior chamber lens having an optic with bores entering into the edge of the optic at points spaced circumferentially apart about 180.degree.. The optic is supported in the anterior chamber by haptics, each of which have a first end fixed to the optic, a first leg extending from the optic to the peripheral anatomy of the eye, a second leg extending transverse to the optic in contact with the anatomy of the eye and a third leg extending back toward the optic. The first leg includes a concave spring-like section extending toward the third leg. The free end of the third leg extends into the bore provided in the optic so that as the haptics compress, the free end of the haptic can ride freely in the optic bore. A locking mechanism holds the free end of the haptic in the bore.

    • A device particularly suited for collecting and dispensing an arterial blood sample. A needle is connected to a flexible transparent tube that includes an air exit vent with a nonwet filter so air, but not blood, can exit the vent under arterial blood pressure. A special needle adapter prevents formation of air bubbles, and a baffle system in the needle minimizes blood and air mixing. A clamp on the reservoir pinches off an air contaminated blood segment and can longitudinally strip a different blood segment which is not air contaminated. The tubular reservoir has an oxygen blocking coating, and its internal surface includes a dry anticoagulant coating.
