    • The present invention is a rotary tool cutter tooth having a readily replaceable cutting portion and a tool employing the tooth. The tooth consists of an elongated shank for mounting the tooth on the tool body with a cutter element being bolted to the forward end of the shank. Preferably the back face of the cutter element is vertically grooved to receive the forward end of the shank so that the two are precisely aligned and any forces which tend to rotate the cutter element during use are resisted. The face of the shank that adjoins the cutter element may further be provided with a negative or inverted step which engages a corresponding step across the groove of the cutter element. These steps interlock to resist forces which would tend to translate the cutter element radially outward when in use. The cutter element may be made of a tool steel or other hard alloy, whereas the shank is typically formed from a mild steel.

    • The present invention is an improved heavy duty circular saw useful for tree falling in conjunction with mechanized feller/buncher equipment. The saw is characterized by ruggedness, easy field repairability, and safety of operation. It is constructed using a flat metallic saw plate of circular configuration. A series of flat segment members are attached around the periphery of the saw plate on each face. Each of these segment members has a plurality of buttress- or tooth-shaped tooth retaining portions on the outer periphery. These buttresses are formed with gullet-shaped spaces between them. The segment members are in an abutting end-to-end relationship on each face of the saw plate. Segment members on opposite sides of the plate are in a staggered configuration so that the abutting end portions of the members on one side are generally located opposite the central portions of the segment members on the opposite side. The tooth retaining buttresses on each side are maintained in an aligned relationship. The segment members are preferably attached to the saw plate by bolting to threaded bushings retained within apertures in the saw plate. Individual teeth, bolted to the opposed buttress-shaped portions of the segment members, complete the construction. The saw is particularly strong because the design forms a continuous interconnected ring or hoop around the periphery. Cutting forces are spread throughout the ring and then transmitted to the saw disk. The interconnected hoop is a strong safety feature since the loss of several bolts in the construction will not cause catastrophic failure to the saw.

    • The present invention includes devices and methods for handling and sorting paper. Devices for accelerating and spreading paper from a paper input to a sensor are disclosed. Operably thin layers of paper are passed through a sensor at cost effective feed rates. One embodiment of the invention includes a spreader positioned to receive paper from the input and an inclined feed section downstream of the spreader. The inclined feed section includes first and second inclined conveyors to further accelerate and spread the paper. A feed accelerator is operably positioned to receive paper from the second inclined conveyor. The feed accelerator further accelerates and separates the paper. The feed accelerator feeds the paper to the sensor which is operably connected to an ejector downstream of the sensor. Targeted paper is ejected from the paper stream and product paper continues downstream to a product conveyor.

    • A fiber blending system includes an apparatus and method of forming a mat of cellulosic fibers and synthetic fibers, as well as a mat thereby formed. The method includes the steps of fiberizing cellulosic material into cellulosic fibers in a fiberizer, volumetrically metering a metered amount of synthetic fibers, and injecting the metered amount of synthetic fibers into the cellulosic fibers. The cellulosic fibers are blended with the metered amount of synthetic fibers in a blending chamber to form a fiber blend. The fiber blend is dispersed through a fiber disperser having apertures of a preselected size and shape to provide a dispersed fiber blend. A third type of fiber may also be mixed with the dispersed fiber blend. The dispersed fiber blend is collected as a mat on a fiber collector to provide a mat of blended cellulosic and synthetic fibers. The mat may be thermobonded by a thermobonder and sandwiched between a facing sheet and a backing sheet. By varying the aperture preselection, as well as the size and type of fibers, a bonded mat having desired mat characteristics is formed.
