    • An absorbent system includes a packaging component and an absorbent article that is removably disposed in the packaging component. The absorbent article includes at least first and second portions, each defining a body side surface. The absorbent article is independently movable from a folded condition, wherein the body side surfaces of the first and second portions face each other in a substantially parallel relationship under an applied pressure applied to the first and second portions, to an unfolded condition, wherein no pressure is applied to the first and second portions. The body-side surfaces of the first and second portions form at least one angle greater than 90° in the unfolded condition when the absorbent article is positioned in the folded condition under 2800 psi of applied pressure for about 5 seconds and then is released to the unfolded condition for about 20 seconds. In yet another aspect, the absorbent article further includes a third portion having a body-side surface. The body-side surfaces of the first and third portions are folded to face the body-side surface of said second portion, producing a tri-folded article.

    • An absorbent structure has a macro absorbent structure with a plurality of aggregate clusters intermixed therein. The aggregate clusters have a periphery, an interior, and thermoplastic binder fibers. The thermoplastic binder fibers have thermoplastic binder fiber ends. The thermoplastic binder fiber ends are located at the periphery of the aggregate clusters. The interior of the aggregate clusters are substantially free of thermoplastic binder fiber ends. The macro absorbent structure and the aggregate clusters may also include thermoplastic binder fibers, staple fibers, superabsorbent particles and the like. A method of making absorbent structures includes a first absorbent structure, dividing the first absorbent structure to create aggregate clusters, providing a stream of the aggregate clusters, providing polymeric fibers, merging the aggregate cluster stream and polymeric fiber stream into a single product stream, and making a second absorbent structure. The method may further include staple fibers, superabsorbent particles, and the like.

    • An absorbent core for use in an absorbent article, the absorbent article and a method of forming the absorbent core and article are disclosed. The absorbent core includes at least three absorbent layers. The first absorbent layer is formed from a stabilized material containing a superabsorbent and has a predetermined basis weight. The two remaining absorbent layers are positioned below the first absorbent layer. Each of the two remaining absorbent layers is formed from a stabilized material containing a superabsorbent and each has a basis weight which is at least equal to the basis weight of the first absorbent layer. The absorbent article includes a liquid permeable bodyside liner and a liquid-impermeable baffle enclosing the above described absorbent core. The method describes forming the absorbent layers into an absorbent core and using the absorbent core to form an absorbent article.
