    • A labyrinth seal for a bypass discharge-type motor-fan unit includes a motor unit from which extends a rotating shaft that passes through an aperture in an end plate to drive a fan unit. Disposed within the aperture is a labyrinth seal configured to prevent liquid entrained in a working airflow from entering the motor unit. The rotating shaft also includes a vacuum bore, such that the negative pressure generated by the operation of the fan unit draws any liquid out of an evacuation zone maintained between the motor unit and the end plate. As such, the components of the motor unit are protected from being exposed to the liquid, thereby extending the operating life motor-fan unit.

    • A bypass motor/fan assembly for use in applications where moisture laden air is encountered. A motor with a motor cooling fan has a fan end bracket received at one end thereof to isolate the motor and motor cooling fan from a working air fan received on the opposite side of the fan end bracket. A diffuser matingly engages with the fan end bracket. The diffuser and fan end bracket have ramped surfaces thereon which are circumferentially aligned with the working air fan. The ramped surfaces define air flow paths of uniform cross section which pass to exhaust ports which are circumferentially spaced about a fan shell which is received over the fan end brackets, diffuser and working air fan. The fan shell has an air intake aperture at an end thereof. Air passes from the air intake aperture, into the eye of the work air fan, and out of the fan at the circumference thereof into the air paths of uniform cross section and to the exhaust ports. This channeling and ducting of the working air achieves a laminar flow and reduces turbulence and pressure pulses, increasing the efficiency of the working air fan and reducing the noise incident to the operation thereof.

    • A motor-fan unit includes an end plate assembly, a motor assembly supported by the end plate assembly, and a shaft rotated by the motor assembly and extending through the end plate assembly. The fan assembly further includes a fan secured to the rotatable shaft which is supported by the end plate assembly. The fan includes a fan disc having a substantially frusto-conical shape, a fan ring having a substantially frusto-conical shape, and a plurality of vanes connecting the fan disc to the fan ring such that the frusto-conical shapes are substantially parallel to one another. A diffuser with a tapered fan side is also provided between the fan and the end plate assembly, wherein the tapered fan side is substantially parallel with the fan disc.

    • A motor-driven fan assembly includes a bracket which couples to a motor assembly and includes an outlet port. A shroud assembly defines a first chamber and a second chamber and includes an inlet port, the shroud assembly is received on the bracket. A bearing-supported shaft is driven by the motor assembly, and extends through the bracket and into the shroud assembly. A first fan is coupled to the shaft and positioned in the first chamber. A second fan is coupled to the shaft and positioned in the second chamber. The first and second fan include a plurality of curved blades positioned between a flat disc and a cap, the cap defining a non-linear cross section. Rotation of the fans by the shaft results in air flow through the fan assembly. Dust is generally prevented from settling on the fan blades during operation, thereby preventing non-uniform dust buildup or breakup which may cause excessive vibration and reduce bearing and brush life.

    • A bearing protection assembly protects a motor having a rotating shaft. The motor includes a bearing carried on the shaft, having one side proximal the motor and one side distal the motor. A support member is positioned adjacent the bearing's distal side and disposed about the shaft. A retaining member is disposed about the shaft, the retaining member and the support member and forms an annular cavity about the shaft. A non-lubricated seal is captured and may be compressed in the annular cavity precludes migration of moisture toward the bearing along the shaft. The seal is preferably made of expanded polytetrafluoroethylene. Alternative embodiments allow the seal to be positioned and secured in various ways with respect to the bearing.
