    • System for providing information to a user via a communication network are provided. One such system incorporates an integrated appliance that includes a housing. The housing mounts a display, a telephone, a keyboard and a first passthrough communication portal. The display is operative to display information to the user. The telephone is located adjacent to the display and is operative to provide voice communication to and from the user. The keyboard is located adjacent to and in front of the display and is operative to receive inputs from the user. The first passthrough communication portal includes a first receptacle located adjacent to the display, a second receptacle and a communication link. The first receptacle is operative to receive a communication connector of a computing device. The second receptacle is operative to receive another communication connector for communicating with a communication network such that the communication link propagates information between the computing device and the communication network.

    • The present invention provides novel amino acid compounds useful in detecting and evaluating brain and body tumors. These compounds have the advantageous properties of rapid uptake and prolonged retention in tumors and can be labeled with halogen isotopes such as fluorine-18, iodine-123, iodine-124, iodine-125, iodine-131, bromine-75, bromine-76, bromine-77, bromine-82, astatine-210, astatine-211, and other astatine isotopes. These compounds can also be labeled with technetium and rhenium isotopes using known chelation complexes. The compounds disclosed herein bind tumor tissues in vivo with high specificity and selectivity when administered to a subject. Preferred compounds show a target to non-target ratio of at least 2:1, are stable in vivo and substantially localized to target within 1 hour after administration. Preferred compounds include 1-amino-2-[18F]fluorocyclobutyl-1-carboxylic acid (2-[18F]FACBC) and 1-amino-2-[18F]fluoromethylcyclobutyl-1-carboxylic acid (2-[18F]FMACBC). The labeled amino acid compounds of the invention are useful as imaging agents in detecting and/or monitoring tumors in a subject by PET or SPECT.

    • An ultrasonic leak detector with a wide dynamic bandwidth and repeatable fixed attenuation reference points includes a transducer which receives ultrasonic energy and converts it into an electrical output signal related in intensity and frequency to the received ultrasonic energy. A high gain charge preamplifier is connected to the transducer and generates an amplified version of the transducer's electrical output signal. The amplified signal is then passed through a multi-level logarithmic attenuator having at least one fixed attenuation reference point to create an attenuated version of the detected and amplified ultrasonic signal. The output of the logarithmic attenuator is connected to a frequency shift circuit which converts the ultrasonic frequency signal into an audio frequency signal related in magnitude and frequency to the attenuated signal. The audio frequency signal is then amplified by an audio amplifier and used to drive a signal level indicator which provides an indication of the magnitude of the amplified output signal. The detector may be used with a lubrication tool to determine the amount of lubrication applied to a sealed mechanical device, such as a bearing, by detecting the decrease in received ultrasonic energy as the lubrication reaches the device. The detector may also be used to detect the increase in ultrasonic energy associated with pending mechanical failure.
