    • A pressure responsive switch having upper and lower contact assemblies with a snap acting member and an electrically conductive member sandwiched therebetween. The assemblies each include an insulating body with a hollow center and an electrically conductive member having a contact in the center portion and extending externally of the body. The snap acting member is in constant engagement with the sandwiched conductive member and normally in engagement with the electrically conductive member of the upper assembly. When a pressure is applied which is sufficient to cause the snap acting member to snap into its second stable state, the connection thereof with the electrically conductive member in the upper contact assembly is broken and connection is made with the electrically conductive member in the lower assembly. The switch is normally closed by removing the portion of the electrically conductive member in the lower assembly which extends externally thereof. The switch can be provided as normally open by removing the portion of the electrically conductive member in the upper assembly which extends externally thereof. In accordance with another embodiment, the switch is provided for operation in conjunction with a printed circuit board. The switch comprises an electrically conductive contact member fixed to the board and having a contact bump and an air conducting passageway. An electrically conductive support for a flexible conductive member is secured to the board within the fixed conductive member the flexible member moving into and out of engagement with the bump in response to pressure changes.

    • An internal vehicular transmission range switch (10) has a movable contact support (20) which slides along a straight path in a recess formed between a housing having a base member (12) and cover (14) between first and second extremities in dependence upon the movement of the manual valve (4) to which it is coupled by an arm (18) extending from the support through a slot (16) formed in the housing. An elongated slider having a lower (20e) and upper (20d) blade portions received in respective channels (12a, 14a) formed in the housing integrally attached to the movable contact support blocks ingress of contaminant particles into the recess while permitting fluid flow into and out of the recess. A second embodiment (10') has a generally U-shaped member (18') having one leg (18a') attached to the movable contact support and extending through an O-ring (24) in an end wall of the housing and a manual valve coupling arm (18c') formed at the distal end of a second leg (18b'). A third embodiment has an endless track (26) in which an elongated, flexible band (28) having opposite ends attached to the movable contact support (20) on opposite sides of manual valve coupling arm (18) blocks entry of contaminant particles through slot (16") in the housing through which arm (18) extends.

    • A vertical form, fill and seal packaging machine has a tube former for receiving flexible packaging material in thin flat strip form and juxtaposing opposite longitudinal edge portions thereof in parallel vertically extending relationship to provide a depending tube open at the top. An end sealer provides vertically spaced horizontally extending transverse or end seals across the tube. A product dispenser discharges measured quantities of product into the tube interior through its open upper end. Tube feed means comprises first and second pairs of vertically spaced rolls respectively on opposite external sides of the tube of packaging material and first and second tube feeding belts respectively trained over said pairs of rolls. Inner runs of the belts engage the tube and have vertically extending perforate portions. Vacuum generating means communicate with the perforate portions to cause the belts to grip the tube and back-up means within the tube provide for frictional tube feeding action. Improved side sealing means comprises a third pair of rolls spaced vertically along the longitudinal edge portions and a belt trained thereover and in pressure engagement with the edge portions. Back-up means within the tube react the sealing belt pressure. The sealing means is driven in unison with the tube feed means and is both adjustable toward and away from the tube edge portions and movable bodily away from the edge portions to prevent overheating thereof.

    • A film slewing device is incorporated into a contact printer of the type in which a free running inner copy film and a driven outer master film are transported in layered contact on the surface of a free wheeling drum through a light exposure region by use of a master film drive roller and a film coupling pressure roller. The slewing device can selectively provide independent drive of the master film while holding the copy film stationary. This is accomplished by use of a thin arcuate film separating member that is conformed to the outer surface of the drum and that slides on the outer surface of the copy film. The film separating member can be slideably inserted between copy and master films in the region of light exposure. It has idling rollers on its outer surfaces to permit free passage of the outer master film. The pressure roller is disengaged when the separating member is positioned between films to prevent movement of the copy film.

    • This invention relates to single-phase antifreeze or coolant concentrates comprising a major proportion of at least one alcohol, at least one water-soluble silicate, and an organic basic pH buffer and corrosion inhibitor comprising at least one hydroxybenzoic acid. The concentrates can be used without dilution but are preferably used, upon dilution with water. The concentrates are generally diluted for use in with about 25 to about 90 percent by weight of water based upon the total weight of the concentrate. The alcohol is preferably ethylene glycol. The alcohol-based antifreeze and coolant compositions of the invention are effective in the protection against corrosion of all metals and alloys used in industrial processes and are especially effective when used to inhibit the corrosion of aluminum internal combustion engine and radiator components.
