摘要： In a method of producing splines on a shaft, cold deformation without removal of chips is effected on the outside face of a small-thickness tube in a single operation. The cold deformation includes hammering the small-thickness tube by a conjugate and simultaneous action of beating and kneading. The depth of the splines can be as much as half the thickness of the tube.

For the adjustment of the steering column concerned in the required direction at least one pair of coupling surfaces is joined to the support member and cooperate with a pair of coupling surfaces joined to the body. The coupling surfaces have a direction substantially parallel to the required adjustment direction and are angularly oriented with respect to major faces of the support member and the body, so that the coupling surfaces cooperate with each other upon locking in order to prevent rotation of the steering column body.

A locking arrangement serves to lock the other end of the connecting member to the steering shaft, and a third positioning arrangement serves to rotationally orient the connecting member relative to the shaft.
