    • A contact assembly for use in an electrical apparatus includes an armature comprising a base and a post having first and second ends. The first end is connected to the base and the second end comprises intersecting cross members defining four quadrants and a body extending between the cross members in one of the four quadrants. A moveable contact is received on the post. The moveable contact comprises an elongate bar having contact pads at opposite ends of one face and a central opening. The central opening comprises intersecting slots defining four quadrants and a void extending between the slots in one of the four quadrants. The central opening is slightly larger than the post second end so that the moveable contact is mounted to the post with the contact pads facing in a desired direction.

    • A contact assembly for use in an electrical switching apparatus has an actuator. An enclosure comprises an interior space housing first and second stationary contacts fixedly mounted in spaced relation with one another in one of a normally closed position or a normally open position. A pusher is movably mounted in the enclosure and is selectively driven by the actuator to move between a normal position and an actuated position. The pusher comprises a top wall, a bottom wall and first and second side walls connected between the top wall and bottom wall to define an opening having respective first and second ends. First and second longitudinally spaced top ribs are on an inside of the top wall proximate the respective first and second side walls. First and second longitudinally spaced bottom ribs are in an inside of the bottom wall proximate the respective first and second side walls and laterally offset from the respective first and second top ribs. A movable contact is received in the opening. A contact spring is captured between the top rib and the bottom rib at either the first or the second end of the opening to bias the movable contact against the top rib and the bottom rib at the other of the first end and second end of the opening.

    • A compression spring formed from an elastomer member having a ratio of plastic strain to elastic strain that is greater than 1.5 to 1 is disclosed. The elastomer spring member defines an elongated axis between opposed ends of the spring and has a molecular structure. A periphery of the elastomer member has a series of axially spaced annular portions of increased cross-sectional area with an annular waistline portion disposed between adjacent annular portions of increased cross-sectional area to provide the elongated member with a series of axially spaced hourglass configurations arranged in end-to-end relation relative to each other. The hourglass configurations along the periphery of the elastomer member allowing the elastomeric spring to collapse upon itself during compression thereof while maintaining a substantially constant outside diameter for the areas of increased cross-sectional area. The internal molecular structure in each annular portion of increased cross-sectional area along with the annular waistline portion being oriented in a predetermined manner during precompression of the elastomeric member to eliminate any compression set characteristic of the elastomer material.

    • A driver is used to manually drive a fastening member. The driver includes a shank, a handle provided at an end thereof, and a socket provided at the opposite end thereof. The socket has a receptacle which includes a front portion extending from a front face of the socket a predetermined distance and a tapered portion extending from the front portion a predetermined distance. The front portion is larger than the outer dimension of the fastening member and is formed from walls which are parallel to the centerline of the socket. The tapered portion tapers inwardly from the front portion toward the centerline. The tapered portion extends uninterrupted 360° around the receptacle such that a rear edge of the fastening member continuously contacts the tapered portion when inserted therein.

    • A compressible spring or shock attenuating apparatus is disclosed for axial insertion within an elongated hollow receptacle having a predetermined inner diameter. The compressible spring of the present invention comprises an elastomer body having an outer diameter and a pair of axially spaced ends. A series of substantially equal annular crests are axially disposed relative to each other on the elastomer body between the spaced ends, with a periphery of the crests defining an outer diameter for the elastomer body. The elastomer body is specifically configured such that the outer diameter of the elastomer body remains substantially constant even when the ends of the spring are compressed toward each other. According to the present invention, each crest of the elastomer body has a closed annular ring fixed and extending thereabout to promote maintaining the outer diameter of said body substantially constant as the ends move toward each other while defining a predetermined outer diameter for the spring. The predetermined outer diameter of the spring is greater than the outer diameter of the elastomer body and is sized to the inner diameter of the receptacle whereby the rings promote axial movements and inhibit snaking movements of said spring within the receptacle.
