    • A latitudinal division type assist grip having a sufficient load bearing capacity is provided. The assist grip includes an outer cylinder member, a first divisional body, and a second divisional body. A first fitting end portion of the first divisional body and a second fitting end portion of the second divisional body are fitted to each other inside the outer cylinder member. The first fitting end portion is provided with a first base portion which has a pole shape, and a first head portion which is formed at a distal end of the first base portion and protrudes toward both sides in a width direction of the first base portion. The second fitting end portion is provided with a second base portion which has a pole shape, and a second head portion which is formed at a distal end of the second base portion and protrudes toward one side in a thickness direction of the second base portion. Also, the second head portion is formed with a recess portion which is opened to the distal end side, the second fixing end portion side, and the one side in the thickness direction. At least a portion of the first base portion is received in the recess portion, the first head portion is exposed toward the second fixing end portion from the recess portion, and side portions of the recess portion of the second head portion are fitted to the first head portion.

    • A cup holder is arranged for withdrawal from and insertion into an accommodation case. The cup holder includes a frame plate, a cup inserting hole formed through the frame plate, and a cup receiving frame pivotally arranged on the frame plate for rotation, and receiving a cup at a location underneath the cup insertion hole. One of the frame plate and the cup capable of receiving frame is formed of a resin with a higher melting point and the other is formed of a lower melting point resin with a melting point lower than the higher melting point resin. The frame plate and the cup receiving frame are formed by a two-layer molding method wherein the higher melting point resin is cast by injection molding and then a lower melting point resin is cast by injection molding.

    • A vacuum forming process, and an apparatus for carrying out the same, for imparting a predetermined shape to a sheet material. The process includes the steps of placing a thermally softened sheet material onto a molding surface of a mold and evacuating air remaining between the molding surface of the mold and the sheet material, thereby bringing the sheet material into a close contact with the molding surface of the surface of the mold. The vacuum forming process and apparatus is adapted for giving a predetermined shape to a sheet material having a low elongation ratio. In particular, when giving a predetermined shape to the sheet material, part of the sheet material is pressed with a pressing member against the molding surface of the mold, a peripheral portion of the sheet material is held with a holding member, and holding forces exerted by a plurality of holding portions of the holding member are varied in order to control movement amounts of the sheet material resulting from a pressing force of the pressing member. In this manner, a predetermined shape can be given to a sheet material without causing wrinkles thereto, even when the sheet material has a low elongation ratio.

    • In the occupant protection device according to the present invention, a restraint body joined with a driving mechanism is located near a target area of a seated occupant while being surrounded by an interior decoration member. Upon predicting a collision of the vehicle, the driving mechanism is actuated to protrude the restraint body from an opening in the interior decoration member for restraining the movement of the target area upon collision by its side facing the occupant, and when the collision is avoided, the driving mechanism returns the protruded restraint body in the opening of the interior decoration member. The restraint body is provided in the vicinity of its outer periphery with a retaining hole, a clip to be inserted in and retained by the retaining hole, and a guide surface for guiding the clip into the retaining hole for helping the restraint body to return in the opening of the interior decoration member. By this guide mechanism including the retaining hole, the clip and the guide surface, the restraint body is able to return to the opening of the interior decoration member smoothly without deteriorating the appearance.

    • In a knee protection system according to the present invention, a knee protection panel is driven from a standby position surrounded by an interior member to the vehicle rear side to a knee-protecting position in front of the knees of an occupant by a drive mechanism when the vehicle is crashing, whereby the knees moving forward are protected by the knee protection panel thus driven. The drive mechanism includes a holding portion for holding the knee protection panel in such a manner that the knee protection panel is moved rearward. Engagement portions are provided, respectively, at locations where the holding portion and the knee protection panel connect with each other in such a manner as to be brought into engagement with each other. These engagement portions are brought into engagement with each other when the holding portion is moved rearward due to the activation of the drive mechanism in such a manner as to prevent displacement of the knee protection panel relative to the holding portion while moving the knee protection panel rearward, as well as allowing the knee protection panel to be displaced vertically and horizontally relative to the holding portion prior to the activation of the drive mechanism. With the knee protection system according to the invention, the knee protection panel can be disposed at the standby position so as to have a visually attractive break with the surrounding interior member, without deteriorating mounting work efficiency.
