    • A system and method for recovering energy from gases of an internal combustion engine in conjunction with exhaust gas recirculation is described and illustrated, and in some embodiments includes an exhaust gas recirculation valve and an exhaust gas recirculation heat exchanger, with a working medium which undergoes a cyclic process being evaporated in the exhaust gas recirculation heat exchanger by hot exhaust gases, and with resulting steam being converted into mechanical or electrical energy which is available as additional energy. To improve heat recovery with little technical expenditure, an exhaust gas control valve can interact with the exhaust gas recirculation heat exchanger, and can control the mass flow of exhaust gases flowing through the exhaust gas recirculation heat exchanger constantly in all operating phases of the internal combustion engine, approximately in the vicinity of the performance limit of energy recovery.

    • A heat exchanger plate for an evaporator includes a flow transverse distribution device. Disks of the flow transverse distribution device conduct the medium to be evaporated to the flow channel extending in the direction of the longitudinal axis. The disks include openings allowing a flow of the medium in the direction of the longitudinal axis with comparatively higher flow resistance than in the direction of the transverse axis. The number of disks arranged one behind the other in the direction of the longitudinal axis varies over the width of the heat exchanger plate in the direction of the transverse axis. On each width section, in which the entry of the medium into the disks arranged one behind the other is intended, the comparatively largest number of disks is provided one behind the other. As the distance from the entrance increases, the number decreases in the direction of the transverse axis.

    • A heat exchanger including a plurality of longitudinal flat tubes stacked together with space between the broad sides of adjacent tubes, and inlet and outlet collecting tanks. The inlet collecting tank distributes a first medium into the tubes, and has a wall extending around the periphery of one end the stack of flat tubes over a selected longitudinal section, the wall having at least one of an inlet and outlet for a second medium distributed in the space between the stacked tubes. The outlet collecting tank receives the first medium from the tubes. Longitudinal internal inserts in the flat tubes are metallically connected to the broad sides of the associated flat tube. At least one row of cutouts is between the longitudinal ends of the internal inserts and in the selected longitudinal section, with the row of cutouts extending substantially across the broad width of the insert.
