    • The present invention is directed to a rotating/non-rotating tibia base plate/insert system. In one illustrative embodiment, the device comprises a tibia base plate, an insert adapted to be positioned above the base plate, and at least one removable pin that, when installed, engages at least a portion of the insert and the base plate to thereby prevent relative rotation between the insert and the base plate. In one illustrative embodiment, the method comprises obtaining a prosthetic knee assembly comprised of a tibia base plate, a tibia insert and a removable pin, the assembly being adapted to be configured in a first state such that the tibia insert may rotate relative to the base plate or in a second state such that said tibia insert cannot rotate relative to said base plate, making at least one incision adjacent a patient's knee, installing the prosthetic knee assembly in the patient, wherein the removable pin is removed such that the assembly is in the first state wherein the tibia insert may rotate relative to the tibia base plate, and closing the incision.

    • An implantable orthopedic knee joint prosthesis includes a femoral component having an internal box geometry defined by a bone-engaging surface configured as a primary prosthesis. The femoral component has a threaded bore therein communicating with the bone-engaging surface. An adapter has a mating surface complementary to the box geometry of the femoral component and an internal box geometry defined by a bone-engaging surface configured as a revision prosthesis. A hole through the adapter is aligned with the threaded bore of the femoral component and has a recessed shoulder. An adapter screw has a head and a threaded shank, the head sized to be received within the hole of the adapter in engagement with the shoulder, and the shank being sized to be threadedly received within the threaded bore of the femoral component. The adapter screw includes a threaded bore therein. A spacer has a mating surface complementary to the box geometry of the adapter and an internal box geometry defined by a bone-engaging surface configured as a revision prosthesis. The spacer has a hole therethrough aligned with the threaded bore of the adapter screw. A spacer screw has a head and a threaded shank, the shank being sized to be threadedly received within the threaded bore of the adapter screw.

    • A surgical instrument for establishing and verifying cutting depth and alignment includes a distal saw drill guide, a rod adaptor removably mounted on the distal saw drill guide and a modular alignment rod removably mounted on the rod adaptor. The distal saw drill guide includes pin apertures for receiving a plurality of pins for locating the distal saw drill guide on the distal end of a femur. A distal saw block is mounted on the pins in replacement of the distal saw drill guide the rod adaptor and the alignment rod. A stylus is adjustably attached to a stylus block which is movably mounted on the distal saw block. The rod adaptor and modular alignment rod are movably mounted on the distal saw block in replacement of the stylus and stylus block.
