    • A fluid sealing gasket device for a spin-on, throwaway filter having an annular sealing gasket with a groove of a particular shape in cross-section, the groove being formed circumferentially at the outer peripheral wall thereof; a substantially correspondingly shaped annular, metal reinforcing member positioned in and extending from the correspondingly shaped groove; and an annular gasket retaining channel formed in the filter end plate for retaining the reinforced sealing gasket therein. The gasket has a lower portion positioned in the retainer channel and an upper portion extending therefrom, with the annular groove and reinforcing member located in the upper portion of the gasket. Alternatively, the reinforcing member effectively fills a "void" when the gasket is molded therearound. This fluid sealing gasket device retains the gasket's structural integrity upon installation on the filter mount and during use when high fluid pressures are exerted on the gasket from the inside of the filter. Thus this reinforced fluid sealing gasket device minimizes deformation, improper orientation, and improper displacement of the gasket during installation and use of the filter, thereby assuring that the gasket is fully effective for sealing the filter to the filter mount and preventing leakage of the fluid.

    • A new method and apparatus for fluid sound amplification and detection having enclosed within a predetermined sized housing a fluid supply emitter in combination with a signal input port and spaced a predetermined distance therefrom along an axis offset a determined distance from the fluid supply emitter axis, at least one receiver, the receiver being responsive to gradient differences in fluid pressure as effected by laminar flow of the fluid from the emitter, a filter connected to the receiver for removing relatively high frequency noise, a diaphragm coupler receiving the output of the filter, the coupler having an output for use as a signal input to another predetermined sized housing, emitter, signal input port and at least one receiver combination. A suitable input transducer is connected to the signal input port of the first housing combination and a suitable output transducer such as a recording microphone and oscilloscope is connected to a receiver output of the second housing combination.

    • An oil filter relief valve having a tension spring housing with oil inlets and a first end and a second end, the first end being located adjacent the mounting plate of the filter, a base being fixedly connected to the second end of the spring housing and tension abutting and extending into the centertube of the filter element, a valve seat having a pointed surface and being located in the base with a channel formed therein for conducting oil therethrough, a resilient piston normally abutting the valve seat in sealing relation, a relatively rigid piston support on the piston, and a tension spring positioned between the first end of the tension spring housing and the piston support to urge the piston into sealing relation against the valve seat. This relief valve opens when the pressure of the oil entering the oil inlets and the channel in the valve seat exceed a particular threshold amount, thus exerting a force on the piston greater than the downward force naturally exerted by the spring. The piston is then lifted from the valve seat and the oil is allowed to flow through the relief valve and by-pass the filter element to immediately re-enter the motor.

    • A device for simultaneously modulating and amplifying low frequency sounds which comprises a tubular member having an axial bore extending a distance interiorly of the inlet end thereof and tapering to a reduced axial bore in said tubular member. A generally perpendicular passageway in said tubular member intersects said reduced axial bore, the top wall of which terminates adjacent to said intersection and the bottom wall of which extends past said intersection, said extended portion being deflected a finite angle relative to the normal axial flow. The tubular member is received by a sleeve, and a first baffle flared in the direction of the flow is angularly disposed relative to said sleeve to define a first passageway in said tubular member. A second baffle in spaced relation to the first baffles is also angularly disposed relative to the first baffle and also angularly disposed relative to the sleeve to define a second passageway in said tubular member such that the area of the second passageway is greater than the area of the first passageway. A receptor tube is provided at the outlet end of said tubular member engaged with said sleeve, said receptor tube being generally flared in the direction of flow. A signal output transmitting member is attached at the end of the receptor tube for transmitting the amplified sound to an external receiver. An orifice is provided in said sleeve intermediate the receptor tube and the second baffles for the passage of the gases which do not substantially enter the receptor tube.

    • A filter of the throw away spin-on type having a housing body with a closed end and an open end, a filter element mounted within said body, a cover plate secured to and closing said open end, a gasket retainer secured to the end closure cover plate, fluid input and output apertures provided in both the cover plate and the gasket retainer, the gasket retainer having a recessed pocket extending circumferentially around the fluid flow openings, inwardly of the outer circumference of the gasket retainer, said gasket pocket having a base at a specified angle relative to the surface plane of the cover plate, and a resilient flexible gasket member of special shape retained by the gasket retainer pocket. The specially configured sealing gasket member is preferably of rhomboid shape and thus a cross section thereof forms a parallelogram with oblique angles and opposite sides equal. The top and bottom surfaces of the sealing gasket form an angle of approximately 10.degree. with the plane of the cover plate and the surface to be sealed, while the inner and outer sides of the gasket member are approximately normal (90.degree.) to the surface to be sealed. A gasket member of trapezoid configuration in cross section may be used in a modified embodiment.
