    • The invention relates to a system and method for use in wireless packet data mode communications for enabling communication between a source device (102a) and one or more target devices (102b) with a reduced set-up time. The invention captures in a control structure (600), one or more communication parameters (602-608) during the set up of the source device (102) and a base station (106). Then the control structure (600) is transmitted to the one or more target devices (102b) during the period of the source device's (102a) configuration and is utilized to configure the one or more target devices (102b) to communicate with the source device (102a) via the base station (106), thus reducing the total time required to set-up the communications.

    • A system, method and computer readable medium are provided for segmenting a cache that is shared by multiple processors. According to the method, a first segment of the cache is allocated to a first processor and a second segment of the cache is allocated to a second processor. An execution time of at least one task on the first processor is monitored. If the execution time of the at least one task is greater than an allowed execution time minus a predetermined margin, the size of the first segment of the cache that is allocated to the first processor is increased. In one preferred method, if the execution time of the at least one task is significantly less than the allowed execution time minus the predetermined margin, the size of the first segment of the cache that is allocated to the first processor is decreased.

    • A method and apparatus is provided for adjusting the gain imparted to a signal by an audio transducer such as a microphone and/or a speaker, which is employed by an electronic device having a multi-touch screen user input. The method begins when pressure applied to the multi-touch screen by a user is detected. The pressure is detected while the user is providing or receiving audible signals to or from, respectively, the audio transducer. Next, the user is identified based on a pre-established user profile that identifies the user based on a pressure profile that is obtained by the multi-touch screen. The pressure profile represents at least a contour of a portion the user's head such as the user's ear, cheek or the like. Once the user has been identified, pre-established user-selectable settings associated with the identified user are retrieved from memory. Finally, the gain imparted to the signal by the audio transducer is adjusted upward or downward based at least in part on the detected pressure and in accordance with the user-selectable settings.

The processor can be programmed to monitor at least one neighboring cell among a plurality of cells for a load condition on the at least one neighboring cell, monitor the at least one neighboring cell for a service capability and discontinue the monitoring of the at least one neighboring cell if a desired service capability fails to match the service capability of the at least one neighboring cell or if the load condition fails to meet a predetermined load condition. The processor can be further programmed to monitor the at least one neighboring cell for a signal quality indication and to discontinue the monitoring of the at least one neighboring cell if the signal quality indication falls below a predetermined threshold.
