    • An array substrate device has a color filter-on-thin film transistor (COT) structure for use in a liquid crystal display device. The array substrate device includes a gate line disposed in a first direction on a substrate; a data line disposed over the substrate in a second direction, the data line perpendicularly crossing the gate line to define a pixel region; a thin film transistor near a crossing of the gate and data lines, the thin film transistor including a gate electrode, a semiconductor layer, a source electrode and a drain electrode; a capacitor electrode overlapping the gate line; a color filter having an island pattern corresponding to the pixel region, the color filter exposing portions of the drain electrode and the capacitor electrode; and a pixel electrode disposed over the cover filter, corresponding to the pixel region, and contacting the portions of the drain electrode and the capacitor electrode.

    • A liquid crystal display device includes a plurality of gate lines and data lines arranged horizontally and vertically, respectively, for defining a plurality of pixel areas; a plurality of switching devices formed at intersections of the gate lines and the data lines; and a pixel electrode formed in a pixel area connected to the switching device corresponding to the pixel area and partially overlapping the data lines adjacent to the corresponding pixel area, wherein a first parasitic capacitance generated by the pixel electrode overlapping a data line for the corresponding pixel area and a second parasitic capacitance generated the pixel electrode overlapping a data line for an adjacent pixel area are substantially equal to each other.

    • A liquid crystal display device includes a substrate, a light shielding layer having a substantial portion in the substrate, and an insulating layer over the light shielding layer and the substrate. A transistor includes gate, source, and drain electrodes over the insulating layer, the light shielding layer substantially covering the transistor. A data bus line is connected to one of the drain and source electrodes and a first light leakage region is adjacent the data bus line, the light shielding layer shielding the first light leakage region. A gate bus line connected to the gate electrode and a second light leakage region is adjacent the gate electrode, the light shielding layer shielding the second light leakage region. A pixel electrode contacts one of the source and drain electrodes of the transistor. A third light leakage region is between the data bus line and the pixel electrode, the light shielding region shielding the third light leakage region. A fourth light leakage region is between the gate bus line and the pixel electrode, the light shielding layer shielding the fourth light leakage region.

    • A method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display having a TFT functioning as a switching element and a passivation layer covering the TFTs and a pixel electrode connected to an output electrode of the TFT on the passivation layer, the method including the steps of coating a photo resist on the passivation layer so that the photo resist has a thickness of more than about 1.2 times of the passivation layer, patterning the photo resist to have a predetermined shape, etching the passivation layer according to the patterned photo resist, removing the remaining photo resist and treating the surface of the passivation layer to be a SiO2 thin layer on the passivation layer using O2 gas, forming a pixel electrode on the passivation layer by depositing and patterning an ITO layer.
