    • A header and a payload in a cell are separated for transfer between a cell interface and a host memory. The header is transferred to a control memory. For transfer to the host memory, the control memory initially provides a host-memory region address and the region length. The payload is recorded in such region. The control memory also provides a second host-memory region address, and length, when the payload length exceeds the payload length in the first address region. For transfer from the host memory to the cell interface, the control memory provides a host memory region address and the header combines the header and the payload and passes the combination to the cell interface. Cells from different sources (i.e. terminals) are scheduled at table positions dependent upon their individual transfer rates. The cells at the scheduled positions are normally transferred in time slots corresponding to such positions. When more than one (1) cell is scheduled at the same position, one (1) cell is transferred on a preset priority basis to the corresponding time slot. The other cells are delayed for transfer subsequently in idle time slots (i.e. no cell normally scheduled) in the same or other priorities. The cell delays for each source are accumulated to a maximum preset value. When the cell delays accumulated for a source exceed the normal time spacing between cells from that source, the source transfers a cell in an idle time slot prior to the normally scheduled time slot to compensate for such delay.

    • A communication system for communication of data packets associated with a packet switched network is disclosed herein. The system includes a port processor, a segmentation and reassembly device, and a host processor. The port processor communicates data packets to and from at least one communication device and at least one destination. The segmentation and reassembly device routes data packets to and from the port processor and the at least one destination. The host processor establishes a virtual circuit between the port processor and the segmentation and reassembly device. The host processor further directs the port processor to communicate data traffic to the segmentation and reassembly device via the virtual circuit, whereby the port processor and segmentation and reassembly device exchange data directly via the virtual circuit without per-packet handling by the host processor of all data traffic.

    • The described method and apparatus wirelessly test individual integrated circuit die on a wafer containing multiple die. The method incorporates activating a selected die on the wafer by wirelessly impacting the die with at least two beams of electromagnetic radiation so that the die receives radiation energy having at least a first energy level, thereby activating the die by causing a current to flow in the die. Each beam of electromagnetic energy individually has less than the first energy level required to activate the die. The beams of electromagnetic energy are directed so that they at least partially overlap on the selected die. In the region of overlap, the two beams together impact the die with an energy level at least equal to the first energy level required to activate the die. The method may additionally include detecting electromagnetic radiation emitted by the die in response to the electromagnetic energy received from the beams of electromagnetic energy. The apparatus includes an integrated circuit wafer and test apparatus. The integrated circuit wafer contains a plurality of individual die. Each die can be activated by directing electromagnetic energy having at least a first energy level onto that die. The test apparatus includes first and second sources of electromagnetic energy. Each source directs to a selected die on the wafer a beam of electromagnetic energy having an energy level less than the first energy level. The beams at least partially overlap on the selected die so that together they couple to the die energy of at least the first energy level.
