摘要： Liquid crystalline compounds having a wide temperature range of liquid crystal phase, a high dielectric anisotropy, and a high optical anisotropy; and liquid crystal compositions and display devices containing the composition. The liquid crystalline compounds are conjugated nitrile derivatives expressed by the formula (1) ##STR1## wherein R represents an alkyl group or a fluoroalkyl group each having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, halogen atom, or cyano group provided that in the alkyl or fluoroalkyl group, one or not-adjacent two or more methylene or fluoromethylene groups may be replaced by oxygen atom or 1,2-ethenylene group; A.sub.1, A.sub.2, A.sub.3 and A.sub.4 represent 1,4-cyclohexylene group, 1,4-phenylene in which one or two hydrogen atoms on the ring may be replaced by fluorine atom, 1,3-dioxane-2,5-diyl, or pyrimidine-2,5-diyl; B.sub.1, B.sub.2, and B.sub.3 independently represent a covalent bond, 1,2-ethylene group, 1,2-ethenylene group, 1,2-ethynylene group, carbonyloxy group, methylenoxy group, or 1,4-butylene group; m, n, and p are 0 or 1; and G represents a group expressed by the formula ##STR2##

摘要： Liquid crystalline compounds superior in having an eminent dielectric anisotropy, being stable against environment and having improved miscibility with other liquid crystalline compounds, as well as a liquid crystal composition with driving-ability at a low voltage and responsibility at a high-speed comprising the compounds as a constituting component, and a liquid crystal display element comprising the composition are provided, said compounds are fluoroalkoxybenzene derivatives expressed by the general formula (1) wherein A1, A2 and A3 each independently denote trans-1,4-cyclohexylene,1,4-phenylene or so; B, B2 and B3 each independently denote a single bond, 1,2-ethylene or so; R denotes an alkyl group having 1 to 15 carbon atoms optionally substitutable with a halogen atom(s); Rf denotes a fluoroalkyl group having 1 to 3 carbon; k, m, and n each independently denote 0 or 1; with the proviso that when k=0 is a case, then one of B1, B2 and B3 is a methyleneoxy bond or so, and that when m+n≧1 is a case, then dependency of A1, A2 and A3 is partly restricted and content of Rf is partly limited when B1 or/and B2 and B3 are all single bonds.

摘要： A liquid crystalline compound having a remarkably high .DELTA.n and good miscibility with other liquid crystalline compounds, and expressed by the general formula (1) ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents, for example, a halogen atom, cyano group, or an alkyl or alkenyl group of 1 to 15 carbon atoms in which alkyl or alkenyl group hydrogen atom may be replaced, for example, by fluorine atom, and one or not-adjacent two or more methylene groups may be replaced by oxygen atom, --CH.dbd.CH-- or --C.tbd.C--; R.sub.2 represents an alkyl group of 1 to 10 carbon atoms or hydrogen atom; rings A.sub.1, A.sub.2, A.sub.3, and A.sub.4 independently represent, for example, 1,4-cyclohexylene or 1,4-phenylene in which hydrogen atom may be replaced by a halogen atom or cyano group; Z.sub.1, Z.sub.2, and Z.sub.3 independently represent, for example, a covalent bond or --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 --; s and t are 0 or 1; u is an integer of 1 to 5; and each of the elements in the general formula may be its isotope. A liquid crystal composition and a liquid crystal display device using the compound are also disclosed.
